Hope this is the Rite place for this one.

Eleswhere it has come up about Blessings and I need something checked.

A discussion among some Eastern people and some Latins re Blessings

I said that it was my understanding that Latin Deacons could bless Sacramentals but not people.

I know that a Latin Deacon can marry couples , can Baptise and bury you but I had always understood he could not Celebrate Mass , nor could he bless you .

I was told by an Eastern Deacon that a Latin Deacon could Bless people

Any comments please ?

Well, as a bi-ritual deacon I think I can address this!

A Latin rite deacon can bless people and certain objects (cars, homes, rosaries, etc.) in accordance with the directives as laid out in the Book of Blessings. An Eastern deacon may not bless anything as a deacon but may, of course, say grace over food, give a blessing to his children – but this is no different from the blessing that any lay person may give.

I hope that clarifies it for you.
