Hello everyone!

I posted a thread over at CARM with the above subject. The moderators moved it way down into the weeds on a board that gets little activity.

I believe this subject is worthy of serious discussion.

This is what my original post said:
I was reading some of the posts on the thread titled: “The CC - harlots and pagan idol worshippers.”
I am wondering if those anti-catholic posters on this board are blinded by their hate for the Catholic church that when those preaching a different Gospel come in full force they will not recognize them.
I hope I am making sense. You see, in reading of Mother Angelica’s conversion story, her healing story, and how she is spending the rest of her life in devotion to the Lord, I just can’t logically see how it would be Satan and his demons healing her. How can that be? Why would Satan do anything that would lead her to the Lord’s service?
Yet, those anti-catholics say this is what happens. Is it just because they are blinded by their hate?
This is a serious question, I am hoping to get serious answers.
I had some feedback that said my posts were “anti-protestant”. I am not trying to be “anti” anything!!! I am really interested in discussing this.

I am constantly seeing threads that start out with honest questions, are replied to with honest answers, then all of a sudden, it all goes downhill. I am beginning to think that people are truly “blinded by hate” for the Catholic church. So blinded that regardless of what they ask and the responses they receive, they will never truly understand the response because they are automatically on the defensive to the point they cannot even comprehend whatever is being discussed.

What do you all think?

I agree somewhat. It could be hate. Though I’m more inclined to believe its their complete lack and willingness to try and understand anything that differs from their own thoughts and opinions. Many are just not willing to really find out what the Catholic Church teaches. They’re comfortable where they are and its much easier to bash something with ignorance than to actually give it the benefit of the doubt and actually see what it is they teach.

I find it funny, and sad, that so many protestants do this. Mainly because, as Christians, we all teach 95% of the same stuff! Its that 5% people just aren’t willing to study and research to find the real answers. 5% keeps us seperated and bickering.

I myself could be an exception, but when I first left the Catholic church I did become a hateful anti-catholic. I would talk to people urging them to become “saved” and to attend a “bible believing” church. When talking about the Catholic church I would become so passionate about what I knew was true that I wouldn’t even listen to the rebuttal of my accusations.

I would classify this and my own being “blinded by hate”.

Now however, I am on the road to returning to my Catholic faith. I now know more than I ever have and believe more than I ever have about my Catholic faith.

Thanks for responded!!!

God Bless!

The “discussions” on CARM are not discussions. You will note that when a serious thread starts almost all get bombarded with accusation of Catholics worshipping Mary and images. The depth of theology on that board is poor at best. I would have to agree with you that many posters there are not interested in discussion they just want to throw out as many anti-Catholic comments as they can.

I was the same way actually growing up…always trying to get people “saved” and such. Especially my Catholic friends!😛

Mine was out of pure ignorance and misunderstanding of the truth. I couldn’t hate what I had no clue about. I had never met a Catholic who knew their faith until I met my boyfriend. So I guess thats why I stated my answer, as it applied to me.

CARM has seriously degenerated in the last year. I just recently started posting there again after an extended absence. I found that people I remember who had been open to reasoned debate are now little more than mudslingers. It is obvious to me that the attitude of CARM leads people to irrationality.

The moderators claim to enforce rules equally, but then one moderator said this within the past two days even though “personal attacks” are prohibited in their rules:
“Man you Catholics are just truly not to be trusted to ever be honest or fair to a noncatholic, not ever…”
With that attitude, it is not surprising they feel justified in their tactics.

I have posted there because they were instrumental in my coming to the Catholic Church. I had found the board to help me come up with arguments to counter what I was hearing in the RCIA class that I was attending with my wife. It took little time for me to realize that CARM was misrepresenting Catholic belief. When I would point out a clarification (not even supporting the Catholic view but merely clarifying it) I was accused of secretly being Catholic.

It wasn’t long after that when I realized the logical falicies of the sola scriptura views I held. CARM demonstrated to me the chaos of SS.

One thing to remember, they really are on the edge of evangelicalism. They don’t represent the mainstream. Don’t judge all evangelicals by their behavior.

It is funny you should say this. I have only been a member of CARM for about a month. When I first went on the boards I was severely anti-Catholic, mud-slinging myself. Quickly the Holy Spirit started working in me and showing me things through many of the posters, Catholic and non-Catholic alike. I have been to Mass the last three weeks and I think and pray to the Lord our God more than I have in my life! I am probably not to far from reconciling with the Catholic church. Just need to get to confession, hopefully tomorrow, if not, next Saturday.

Oh, by the way, I am GodsChild1 over on CARM.

I think it is hate, but from their standpoint I can understand it. They feel Catholicism is a pagan system used to put us in bondage and keep us from the redeeming power of the Gospel. They feel we are hopelessly lost and destined for hell because of the Catholic Church. If they HONESTLY (I emphasize honestly because this statement depends largely on that being the case) believe the Catholic Church is causing hell and damnation for 1.1 billion souls I can understand why they hate it.

I post over on CARM under the handle STJ. I find the atmosphere to be extremely negative. I have no idea if the Catholics that post over there are making an impact, but I will say that the Catholic participants generally do a pretty good job in handling some rather obnoxious attacks.

I consider CARM to be a place for us Catholics to do electronic- missionary work.

Please place the Catholic missionaries to CARM in your prayers.

Thanks,

Pax

Actually the OP in this thread is a CARM success story.
