I just BLOCKED someone for Catholic bashing on the most popular social media website on the internet. I WILL NOT TOLERATE CATHOLIC BASHING from someone who is prejudice and does not know the real meaning behind Catholicism! I can’t stand when people start in!!!

I appreciate your passion and frustration, but sometimes when you do that you close the door on an opportunity to evangelize and to bear indignities in the name of Christ…and those thing ARE the real meaning behind Catholicism.

Peace and all good!

If this comment refers to facebook, there’s all kinds of garbage on there.

🙂 I have done that too…on FB. I have never found that it was fruitful to try and offer truth on FB. I know a lot of people that are good at it though 🤷 I would just remain calm and rational and the people I argue with would get so peeved and then they would get abusive. It was just tiring and depressing for me. I can do it in person but on social media it was just a peace sucker.

I don’t like Catholic bashing either. In fact, once someone resorts to that, all reason leaves

I’ll have to agree with Neofight, unless you had some sort of discussion with them and it came to the point of blocking then fine by me.

I would say it is a matter of degree. What one person considers to be “bashing” may simply be disagreement or mere questioning of the reason or basis for a particular belief. As long as the discussion is polite and civil, I would allow it to continue. If you block the person, you provide them with the opportunity to say that you were unable to defend your belief, and that he was correct.

I unfriended and blocked a “catholic” on facebook who INSISTED that Women should be allowed to become priests. It was probably the best thing I ever did. Trying to reason with her DID NOT WORK.

Actually, it would not ruin my day if women were Ordained to the Priesthood. I can understand the position of the Church and can accept the current teaching. However, even Judaism now has women as Rabbis…and even as Orthodox Rabbis! I can guarantee you that those female Rabbis know more about the Old Testament than do any Priests in the Church.

I know what you’re saying. But one he started in bashing Priests I knew I couldn’t talk with him. Right now, I don’t have the brain power, or the knowledge to debate with people. And once I put out a reason for confession, only to have him ridicule Catholic Priests, I blocked him. No use in throwing my pearls before swine. As I told him, I come from a upbringing of hearing arguments about religion. I simply can’t deal with it anymore.

Yes, it was Facebook too. I like your last statement. It’s very true. Once a person starts resorting to Catholic bashing all reason leaves. Great point!

Simple inquiry: Was the other person bashing “ALL” Priests, or just those very few evil ones who had done some terribly evil things during their terms as Priests? Let’s face it: That is a question that should have been asked of the “basher”. I know of one former priest here in my state who is now serving a prison term of 35-70 years for what he did to two altar servers…one of whom is now dead. I have nothing good to say about that former priest who was Laicized very quickly by the Vatican.

Then again, there are some really EXCELLENT Priests, and I have had the pleasure of knowing many of them. Some of them are now Bishops and Archbishops, and they conduct themselves with great dignity. I would not lump “ALL” Priests into any one category. However, it is necessary to separate the good from the rest of the bunch.

So, the next time you see someone bashing Priests, why not ask them to be very specific about who they are bashing! Are they talking about the few evil one, or all Priests? If they reply “all”, then perhaps it is time to bow out of the discussion, as anyone who would ostracize all for the doings of the few is probably not going to be helped by a total stranger.

I would like to see this guarantee.
It’s not in writing, mind you, but ANYONE wishing to become a Rabbi…ESPECIALLY an Orthodox Rabbi… has to undergo a LONG period of study…IN HEBREW… and must learn all of the Old Testament from Genesis through to the Prophets, Psalms, etc.
Out of curiosity, how many Priests are knowledgeable in the Hebrew language? PROBABLY NOT MANY!!!
One good thing about this is that Orthodox Rabbis translate directly from the original Hebrew into English. Thus, while YOU might say “Thou shalt not kill”, please be aware that there is no such Commandment. Correctly translated from Hebrew into English, it is “Thou shalt not MURDER”!!! (emphasis is mine). The difference? Murder is done “with malice aforethought” (premeditated) while killing can be either accidental, in self-defense, or in military combat… none of which are forbidden by the Old Testament.
Under the ancient laws, while it was allowable for a Jew in Jerusalem to put a goat to death, under the terms of Roman occupation a Jew was forbidden to put another human being to death. That’s why the Romans had to crucify Jesus, as the Jews could not!

I know where the OP is coming from on this. I’ve had some friends -using the term very loosely- on Facebook that were either anti-Catholic or trolls. One was an atheist who had to be insulting every time anything remotely relating to faith was brought up. He was even starting to get nasty towards my other friends, and some family. It was time to end it. What he was doing fit nowhere in the definition of friend. There have also been some very liberal (in politics and religion) ones that only interacted when they disagreed. Basically, they just wanted to argue. There was no reasoning with them, they had the college education and I don’t, so automatically they were right. One went so far as to post a meme with Jesus saying the F word.

I have friends of varying beliefs, and thankfully stuff like this doesn’t happen with most of them. Even when they don’t agree, the respect goes both ways.
