Im not sure what to think about this, I do wonder why, if there were so many women taken advantage of, why did none of them come forward until decades later? Back when these things were said to happen, Cosby was not a huge name then, so he didnt have the power he does now as a major celebrity, it would have been easy to ‘bring him down’ back then.

Plus, the fact that all these women are looking for a settlement, that just screams conspiracy to me, if they had truly been taken advantage of in the manner that is claimed and it effected them to the degree they are now claiming, it seems money would be the last thing they are interested in, really it suggests they can be ‘bought’.

Most of these occurred while he was a big star. That was the issue…this was the height of him doing the Cosby Show.
And looking at the way these women are treated even now, I can see why they were hesistant about coming forward.

This post explains why these women would be reluctant to come forward.

The way Anita Hill was related scared many women who were victims of wealthy or powerful men into silence.

He’s admitted it. It’s time to stop blaming the victims.
The thing that sealed it for me (long before his confession) wad that so many comedians came out and said “well, yeah, everyone has known this for decades”. Seth Rogan, Bill Maher, and Judd Apatow all said that they’ve been hearing these horror stories for decades and that they all knew countless women who would never work with him again. Some said it was due to sexual assault, others refused to say why.

But the people in the industry knew and he was able to get away with it for decades. That’s sick.

Yup. And when Lisa Boney said that “behavior that dark can’t be hidden forever” or words to that effect…that was it for me as well.

I wonder what motivated him to fess up? I would have been much harder to “get him” if he had not, though still possible.

I’d like to believe that he is truly remorseful. The amount of women he scandalized, think about the number of ones who will never come forward. Quite a bad legacy to leave behind. I hope he continues, and in some way, can make up for what he did.

Seth Rogen, Bill Maher, and Judd Apatow have no credibility with me.

What really strikes me as strange is that Cosby’s wife denied the allegations. After her husband’s comments were made public she now admits they took place but were consensual.

Some courts documents were unsealed. In it he admitted to getting prescription Quaaludes with the purpose of giving women.

The poor woman is trying to make the best out of years of betrayal.
Not something would many of us would do, but I can see where she’s coming from.
She’s trying to salvage it.
He, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to get it. 🤷

I would have thought a guy like that would have had lots of women willing enough–even to be drugged if that was his fetish–because he was famous. Was it just the forbiddenness of it all that got him going? Was he just so addicted to trying something new and risky he figured he’d just give it a go? In some ways I don’t understand–while in other ways I sorta do.😦

Thats because MONEY always comes into the picture…How can money help them with getting over this thing that happened in their past? Yes, its terrible, Im not saying it isnt, Im just wondering why any of them should even suggest a monetary settlement…wouldnt this be totally against womans rights? I mean, NO woman should have a ‘price tag’ on her dignity, Id like to hear one them get up and say " I want this man punished for what he did, that would be good enough for me,I know money wont buy happiness and will not accept ANY settlement, punishment is much more important".

Statute of limitations had expired in many of these cases and they probably could only go after him civilly vs. criminally. He still has his defenders even though he has admitted to doing this stuff.
I think at least one of the women reported it to the police. And of course you can guess what the response was…it was Bill Cosby after all. After they didn’t listen to her, she went after him civilly and that’s why they have the deposition of him admitting this stuff.

I do not blame a victim who accepts money. I don’t think a victim who accepts money is putting a price on her dignity. She would rather not get raped - no amount of money is worth it. When OJ Simpson was freed of his wife’s murder, the family sued him and won. Even though he got away in criminal court they were able to obtain a civil judgement. The money did not bring their daughter back but they got some amount of justice.

I think many have said this.
If it were more about money, they would have gone after him in his prime…not when he’s basically done with his career anyway.

It’s not about money.
It’s about the fact that he has no remorse and people were damaged. We’ve finally gotten to a point where women don’t have to just “get over it”.
Women are far more likely to stand up now than they were back when the majority of this happened. Times have changed. As the song says “sisters are doing it for themselves”.

Yes, the money if any, is a punishment of him and his lifestyle…not a reward or windfall for the women.

I think “power” and “domination” factor into it.
