Any combat training and tactical planning begins with a process of intelligence collection, analysis, and dissemination. Recon (reconnaissance) is a military term used to determine the enemy force’s disposition and intention, gathering information (or intelligence) about an enemy’s composition and capabilities. Dr. Peter Kreeft wrote: “You cannot win a war if you are unwilling to admit we are even at war or you don’t know who your enemy is or you don’t know what strategy your enemy is using.”

Not too long ago, I wrote an article which posited that we are facing a monumental heresy in our times that equals or surpasses the greatest heresy of all times, which was Arianism. While Arianism openly denied the divinity of Christ, I called this modern heresy “Stealth Arianism.” St. John says, “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth” (1 John 3:18). While not many today openly deny the divinity of Christ by their words, far too many deny His divinity by their actions.

“Over the past 50 years,” I wrote, “the Stealth Arians have done everything within their power to remove from our lived experience of Catholicism anything that would point to the divinity of Christ, and the supernatural quality of our faith. Everything has been stripped from our churches – sacred art, sacred architecture, sacred music, and the sacred elements of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass – and we are left in the barren desert of the banal. It is no wonder many Catholics think nothing of approaching the Most Holy Eucharist dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops, and grabbing the host like they’re reaching into a bag of chips. As Flannery O’Connor said, ‘If it’s a symbol, to hell with it.’ It’s more surprising that these individuals even bother to attend Mass at all.”

I’m curious why this is posted in the non-Catholic religions forum.

While there is an element of truth in many of the diatribes listed, it doesn’t appear to be “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”

One of the general area Catholic Churches here in North County has been/is being renovated, and many of the items listed as being stripped away are anything but that. One counter example negates a sweeping statement. My own mainstay Church is likewise a counter example.

Should we, as a people be more diligent. Sure. But strong claims, when I see them not being backed up, tends to make me, in my own personal mindset, discredit the speaker.

I think you will find an element of this everywhere today, it is not restricted to the Churches.

The enemy is our own self and the ability to find God within with Laws.

This reflects the condition of the world.

It’s always strange to me how much complaining there is about such things, and how little actual effort there is to actually do anything about it by anyone in any position to do anything. It’s also interesting that the complaining is so often simply a collection of non-sequiters. T-shirts and flip flops? Really? The few people I know who have a genuinely sincere awe of the divinity of Jesus are mostly always found in such attire. The whiners who are so concerned about appearances make it difficult to take seriously the notion of a war in the sense that Dr. Kreeft is referring to. It’s like declaring war on people who like mayonnaise…easily dismissed .
