blogging?

I’m considering blogging…
I wonder what others think and why they do it?
I’m not really interested in a having a public diary… more of a chance for others to come to me vs me having to go everywhere else…
thoughts? Pros? cons?
 
Sorry about bad typing. little boy is crashed on my shoulder. I have one at Live Journal and I love it. You get to decide who can see what.

I’ll second the nomination for LiveJournal. There’s also blogger.com and xanga.com.
You’ll just have to experiment with them and see which one is best for you. I’ve done all three of them and liked LiveJournal and Xanga the best. 🙂
 
I think it’s great. I am one of six kids and our family is all over the place, not to mention that we’ve moved several times and have friends out of state. I see it as a way for them to keep up with our kids, hear funny stories and see pictures. I talk to many of them too, but they like seeing the blog and making comments on the pictures. I think you can set it up through blogger so it is private, although I don’t think people’s family blogs would get a lot of hits anyway.

I blog on two spots, AOL and on ModBee.com. I enjoy it because it gives me a chance to vent, be creative, speak to a variety of subjects and/or just ramble on and on.
I will tell you that you must be prepared for comments that can be cruel, for people who want to argue their own political agenda, and for nuts. Some of the places - like AOL for instance - allows you to block comments, or certain people, from commenting. I, for example, was blocked from commenting on someone’s blog because they hate Catholics - they said so as their reason for not wanting me to be able to comment on what they wrote (and I have to say I was shocked since I had left them a compliment on their writing style).

Anyway, I think it is great but be aware that once something is on the internet it is on there FOREVER AND EVER (amen).
 
I have a blog over on Xanga. I like it, and I’ve never had any issues with it. The link should be in my profile if you want to check it out. The only thing about it (and blogging in general) is that you don’t know who all is reading it, and you do have to be somewhat careful about what you say and how you say it. But at least on Xanga you can set certain entries to private or protected (so that only certain people can read it). Actually, you can set your entire xanga to protected mode.

Blogger.com is probably the most “wholesome” one (at least from what I’ve seen). A lot of um…older people use it. Not saying you’re old of course 😛 😃 !!! I tend to think of Xanga and LiveJournal as more directed towards teenagers and college age students.

I’m 26, I’ve used it for the last year. I like it a lot better then live journal or xanga.

Is there any place where one can have a blog that will only allow people to access the blog with a password one has chosen?

I have a blog on homeschoolblogger.com. I found it pretty easy to use and set up. The main set up is by Christians so the majority of blogs are certianly Christians. I’ve only run across a few that I made the mental note to never visit again. I’ve also run across many Catholic families on there! 😃
 
I have a blog on myspace which you can set to private, friends only, preferred readers or all. I love my blog.
 
Martha – if you don’t mind me asking, what are you going to blog about? Homeschooling or a bunch of different things?

I’ve started one… it’s pretty boring right now, but I’m hoping to dress it up and add to it as it progresses…

I’m trying to add photos, links, and so forth… dratted dial-up connection takes forever. Wordpress does offer privacy management if you want it, but I’ll see how it goes. So did homeschoolblogger.com and blogger.com, but I thought wordpress was a bit more user friendly.

Which ones did you mention? I am on blogger.com and can only find an option for them not to have my blog on their listing, but it can still be accessed through the internet. I just don’t want to open an account with every place until I find one that can be password protected. I’m not sure which blogs you mentioned, does wordpress offer that? I can’t find a post on this thread with you mentioning blog places… Did I misunderstand?
