Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that blood transfusions are forbiddenby the Bible. How can I show a Jehavah Witness friend that this is wrong using the Bible and logic?

God Bless

You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh—Lev 17:14

This is their main pont in not using blood or blood products. I work in cadiac surgery where we use a lot of blood. I have seen people die because of this belief and I have seen converts right before surgery who said they will take blood.

It is very hard to argue against someone when they are fanatical.
The is how they interpret the bible. The only way I could see of arguing this point by using scripture and scripture alone is to ask them, “Where in the bible does it say you shall not have a blood transfusion?” If they believe the bible literally, then ask them how is the word “eat” the same as tranfusion? What is the action of eating? I believe it to be putting something in your mouth, chewing, and swallowing. The definition of the word tranfusion does not come even close to this. Also, ask them why it is ok for them to get a kidney transplant (which it is), but they can’t have a transfusion? Blood remains in the kidney to an extent before the put it in. It is imposible to remove all blood from the kidney or it would die.

With this being said, good luck.

Reminnd them it is a DIETARY law that also includes the restriction of eating pork fat. We are not held to this old Mossaic dietary law.

Ask them if they have a problem with pork rinds due to religious reasons.

This is another example of their pick and choose make it up as they stumble along heresy.

WARNING: do not debate a Witness unless you KNOW the heretical beliefs they have and are ready to refute scriptures they will toss at you.

20 years or so ago, when I “flirted” with the jws, they instructed me that to “eat” (in jw lingo) means to take into the body - by any means. Therefore, no transfusions.
Good luck with that logic you plan on using.
I’ve yet to see or hear logic work with those people.

Here is the funny part–

Eat / not eat—

DOES NOT MATTER!

they try to trip you up with that so you will FORGET that WE are NOT HELD TO DIETARY LAWS …

Simple- sorry OP but it is that simple.

They will twist your brian into all different directions!

YOU ARE IN DANGER OF YOUR SPIRITUAL HEALTH IF YOU CONTINUE this if you are not prepared…

If you are truly a Catholic, you MUST witness the Gospel, but if you are doing apologetics–

DO WHAT THEY DO-- go in pairs! They never go door to door alone.

Get another brother well versed in heretical cults to go with you to talk to them-

If you dont— It was nice knowing ya.

I got in a discussion about this with someone at a wedding reception. She asked me if there were many people who refused blood transfusions (I work in cardiac surgery too Dave!), and if so, were they any religion other than JW. The answer to that is no- I’ve only ever had one patient refuse a blood transfusion and she was JW.

99.9% of patients undergoing cardiac surgery require a transfusion, but we also do autotransfusion, which basically means the blood that is lost is processed, and transfused- so its still the patients blood.

But anyway, the friend was saying that blood transfusions shouldn’t be allowed because the Bible says life is in the blood, and of course that includes organ transplants as well.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? My thoughts are that an organ transplant is a gift from God, but she got me thinking.
