For some reason, I feel like drinking blood is sinful. And no, I don’t think of drinking blood as pouring yourself a cup of “diet blood” , but rather is it sinful to suck your thumb, arm, etc. if it’s minorly bleeding -as in, a minor cut?

Minor would mean that it would be wasteful and useless to get a band-aid.

This is another one of those moral theology threads where the answer is, quite simply, NO.
But, to get to the bottom of this… What would lead you to believe that this would be sinful?
It’s a completely natural behavior, when tending to a wound.

It’s not sinful, it’s delicious and very refreshing on a hot Summer day!

If its the blood of an animal, then yes it is. Your own? No. The prohibition against eating meat with the blood still in it, is found in the Law of Moses, and in the book of Acts. Hope this helps.

This is not Catholic teaching, I think. We don’t have these dietary restrictions…

Indeed we do not. The Catholic Church doesn’t condone the eating of any particular item that I can think of on normal days.

So the prohibition laid down by the apostles is no longer in effect? When did this get reversed?

15 Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.”

16 “Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them. 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander."

So the command by the apostles, was really just a suggestion? This teaching from them took place after the Ascension. When they were giving rules that the gentiles were to live by.

It does seem strange, I just know that the Catholic Church doesn’t teach this. Maybe someone else here knows the reason? Maybe he was only speaking to the Jews at the time or something?

That is what I am thinking is a possibility too. but the problem with that, Is that their is a ban on sexual immorality in this set of commandments too. Why would one go away and the other not? Either way, Im not going to start eating blood again. Im sure there is a good answer for this, but when I think of all the blood born pathogens, etc. It just does not seem like a good Idea. But…I do eat sushi. I gotta wonder??? Hopefully someone has some insight to share. Peace
