I saw that in Summa Theologia, boasting is said to be a mortal sin when it is about something “contrary to God’s glory”. Does this mean that even boasting over venial sin is grave matter?

I’m trying to picture boasting over a venial sin? Example?

How do you boast over a venial sin? Please, an example.

Maybe something like if you planned a surprise party for someone and had to lie to someone (or some other small lie that doesn’t constitute grave matter) and then were bragging about having kept that person in the dark about it.

It may have helped if you read the following text. It provides an example of such a boast (Ezekiel 28:2, “…I am God…” or “…I am a god…”, with the intent of denying God the glory due to him. Therefore, in light of this, other examples are arrogant atheists bragging, “I don’t need God” or “God can’t do anything to me.” These are precise examples of boasting against God’s glory, because they deny what is due to God.

Bragging about keeping someone in the dark hardly constitutes a sin, much less a boast contrary to God’s glory.

You probably should ask a priest about what you read in the Summa because it is very hard for lay people to understand it, and can easily be misinterpreted.
