sorry if wrong forum.

I would like to know if only recieving the body of christ is sufficient. I cant remember the last time i recieved the blood of christ. I just dont like drinking from the same cup as others i guess is the reason for this.
I just feel bad for the first time about this after skipping it during easter mass.

It is OK to just receive the Host. The Host contains both the Body and Blood of our lord, so you are not missing out on any graces.

Totally okay. I was coughing during Mass today (no virus - just coughing) so I didn’t receive the Blood of Christ because I didn’t want to make other people feel grossed out or worried about something contagious.

You are not required to take both Species. The body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ is in each.

As someone else said, when you take the host you take the body, blood, soul and divinity of our Lord. You do not have to take the cup because when you take the host you are getting the blood of Christ, also.

This was settled at a Church council centuries ago. Receiving one is the same as receiving both.

When you receive Holy Commmunion, the present of Jesus Body and Blood, are in the wafter, when the priest Consecrated the Host Their are churches that give the wafer and sip of wine, but church are getting away from that, because many people, can,t drink wine.

Only receiving the host is sufficient as is only receiving the precious blood (which some coeliacs do). Some people choose to receive both and that is fine too since the Church teaches that:

“Holy Communion has a more complete form as a sign when it is received under both kinds. For in this manner of reception a fuller sign of the Eucharistic banquet shines forth. Moreover there is a clearer expression of that will by which the new and everlasting covenant is ratified in the blood of the Lord and of the relationship of the Eucharistic banquet to the eschatological banquet in the Father’s kingdom.”

No one is required to recieve holy communion under both species. If you don’t want to -then don’t. When you recieve the host you recieve the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus in just recieving the host. The same situation applies if someone only recieves from the chalice.
:):)🙂

Yet since reception under both species has becone the norm, more and more people are getting confused about this. It’s time to start receiving under one species again.

This question came up recently at our church and our pastor said that taking the host/body and not the wine/blood (when it is offered) is not a complete communion. The cloth used to wipe the edge of the cup is an anti-bacterial cloth and should prevent the spread of germs. Our pastor recently came from a seminary where he taught the proper way of saying of mass.

I’m not sure if this is only in America, or world wide. If you look at Canon law you will see that both species is to be reserved for more solemn occasions.

If you don’t like drinking from the same cup, wait 'til you experience receiving from the same spoon 😉

Your priest is absolutely completely wrong and preaching heresy. Both species each contain fully the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus. One only needs to receive communion under one species in order to receive communion completely.

Furthermore, unless your parish is using an antibacterial cloth (ie: one of those Lysol or Clorox disposable wipes) as a purificator, which is NOT permitted, the purificator isn’t “anti-bacterial”. It’s a piece of white linen cloth.

It was when I grew up in the 90s, but now it’s common practice here.

When I get the time I will look up the canon I was referring to.

You may be right, my priest is only a Professor of Liturgical and Sacramental Theology at a seminary. Nothing I read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church says anything about their being one and the same, could you reference where this is stated?

It may not be a full ritual communion, however one does receive the same increase in sacramental grace. I understand it as:

We eat the essence (E) of the Son, with all the attributes of the divinity and all the physical parts and properties of his humanity.

Bread essence + bread appearance - trans. sub. → Son essence + bread appearance.
Wine essence + wine appearance - trans. sub. → Son essence + wine appearance.

Essence is real so in either species is the whole Son, in reality, but not in appearance.

The Church has hundreds, possibly thousands" of official documents. Not everything is in the CCC. This was addressed during the Council of Trent.
Chapter One
LAYMEN AND CLERICS WHEN NOT OFFERING THE SACRIFICE ARE NOT BOUND BY DIVINE LAW TO COMMUNION UNDER BOTH SPECIES
This holy council instructed by the Holy Ghost, who is the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and godliness,[1] and following the judgment and custom of the Church,[2] declares and teaches that laymen and clerics when not offering the sacrifice are bound by no divine precept to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist under both forms, and that there can be no doubt at all, , that communion under either form is sufficient for them to salvation. For though Christ the Lord at the last supper instituted and delivered to the Apostles this venerable sacrament under the forms of bread and wine,[3] yet that institution and administration do not signify that all the faithful are by an enactment of the Lord to receive under both forms. Neither is it rightly inferred from that discourse contained in the sixth chapter of John that communion under both forms was enjoined by the Lord, notwithstanding the various interpretations of it by the holy Fathers and Doctors. For He who said: <Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you>,[4] also said: ;[5] and He who said: <He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath life everlasting,>[6] also said: ;[7] and lastly, He who said: <He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, abideth in me and I in him>,[8] said, nevertheless: [9]
The only person who MUST receive under both species during Mass is the priest offering Mass in order to complete the sacrifice. Offering communion under both species to the faithful is a “more full sign” it received completely under one species. We’re not even required to receive communion during Mass.

Here in the Philippines we only receive the Host. I’ve never seen both species here being distributed to the faithful coming up for Communion.
In fact in many Asian countries where I have received Communion only the Host is distributed.
