My friend just started attending BYU, and I was surpised to learn that they prohibit women from having any piercings other than one for each ear. This got me curious about what the Catholic Church’s position is on piercings. I have three in each ear and my bellybutton pierced and it never crossed my mind that there was anything sinful about it.

Well, we’re not big on those giant weights the Inca in Peru and some Tang Chinese used to use to stretch their earlobes down to their shoulders, I’ll tell you that for free. 😃
 
I think it is important to ask WHY you are doing this? In my experience (not saying you are like this) girls only get their belly buttons pierced so they can show them off to boys because boys think it’s “hot”. If this is the case, than it is most certainly a sin and no different from hiking up your skirt or wearing practically nothing on your chest.

Same goes for tongue rings.
 
I would stick with the ears only for safety reasons. And I have absolutely nothing against guys getting their ears pierced. Even both of them.

Will the body Piercing stop you from being true to your self?
 
I saw a sign on a car the other day…“Body Piercing Saved My Life” it was a picture of the nails in the wrists of Jesus.

As for belly rings, all fine and good as long as the belly is toned, but with age and childbirth, :rolleyes:

Body piercing would only be a sin depending on the Reasons for them I would suspect.

How do you keep your clothes from rubbing against the belly ring?🤷 My step-daughter had to take hers out because it kept rubbing against her sweaters causing an infection to set in.
 
I have my ears stretched to 1’’ my lip pierced 4 times, my septum stretched to 9mm, my tongue split surgically. not to mention my 3/4’’ lower gland Bisection!

and trust me… i am still very true to myself! 😉

and on a side note, its called a tongue BAR, rings are circular…
 
a vising priest came to my parish one year and he had an earring! it was tiny but earring nonetheless. it didn’t bother me he was older too…
anyway, i think the Church may not have clear guidelines to body piercing but BYU has the right to set specific rules. plus, belly rings are a temporary thing…any seniors out there with belly rings???:bigyikes:

I’m a geezer, and I don’t practice any form of piercianity. But I have often expressed my support for the right of every generation to do themselves in such a way that 40 years down the road they’ll look at pictures of themselves and say, “Oy, I can’t believe I was stupid enough to make myself look like that!”
 
From the way I understand things (and I’m probably wrong about this) I would think that piercings are an intentional infliction of change to the body that doesn’t contribute to preserving ones health and well being. I say that as things like amputeing a body part due to infection or severe injury is necessary to preserve one’s life. Surgery like having a tooth extracted, gall bladder removed, transplant and other health required surgeries are not looked at as mutilating the body. Piercing does change the body in a way not conforming to the health of the person, same goes for plastic surgery.

Like I said I may be completely wrong in this line of thought but that’s what I have always been lead to believe.
