Hi, my son is planning to go to Bonnaroo after his high school graduation this year. I have not heard of it until recently. It is a festival in Tennesee that involves rock concerts and other events. Does anyone know about this and have any thoughts about it in terms of moral dangers and redeeming value?

hey yeh, ive been to bonnaroo before it was pretty awesome. as far as the morality involved its really just up to you. i mean i went and did not engage in any degrading or objectifying activities; however, it would be easy to fall into trying out drugs and doing whatever you like. the key is obviously…not to do it. as long as you keep a level and just enjoy the music you’ll be fine. nothing really harmful about it. lots of good music and nice people.

Once use to be a lot pot involved, but I think they started to crack down on it.

I have friends that go every year and have a great time. A lot of very popular bands play, and people pitch tents and hang out all day and listen to music. There are still drugs around, but if your son can control himself he will be just fine.

Oh, and tell him to bring extra water - it’s crazy expensive at the festival.

Is he going away to college ? If so, the same temptations will be there, and as he is an adult he will have to make those choices on his own. It’s part of growing up. I don’t think it’s anything horrible to be worried about, but there may be some options there he hasn’t had presented to him before. Either way, like I said, some day he will have to make those choices. All you can do is prepare him best you can.
