Hey Guys and Gals…

I just have to get a little rant off my chest… *sigh

This is aimed at those protestants and catholics who have nothing better to do then accuse the other side of some misguided or evil deed. Asking questions I have no problem with but when you name a thread or post a response like ‘Protestants are THIS way!’ or ‘Catholics worship THIS way’ I can’t help but bristle because all it does it bring on the ‘Catholics are always trying to tell me I’m evil’ or ‘Protestants are always attacking us’ in some form or another. What happened to turning the other cheek? So what if A protestant think that catholics are evil? So what if A catholic thinks that protestants are bumbling idiots? Why does it bug anyone so much? Whenever I hear anyone whining about this anti-whatever site I just want to say Boo Hoo… At least they are tying you to a post and trying to burn ya! Or lynching you from a tree… Now, if you had a gun shoved up your nose for your beliefs then I could see letting you cry about it.

I would so love to see a thread come up about brainstorming how to get protestants and catholics to come together and FIGHT Satan. And then to see that thread blow up with so many ideas that we have to start another thread! What a world this could turn out to be. But no, all we wanna do is tell the other group how wrong they are and how Daddy loves me more than you… The way we get so heated on this board amazes me. Maybe I will try to start that thread… Let’s see where it goes.

Ok, I think it’s out of my system…

First this forum seems to attract people that love to debate. So some of the threads are not so much arguments as just people enjoying the process of debate. I often think that if someone started a thread on the the fact that the sky is blue, someone else on this forum would try and debate that fact.

Also this forum is set up for Catholics to not only give support to one another but to whet their apologetic skills against those who aren’t Catholics. The creators of this forum were brilliant in coming up with the idea of allowing all different belief systems on this forum. Compared to some of the debates that start up on this site, what I have to actually answer in real life seems easy.

I try very hard to use the modifiers, some and most, in front of the word Protestant. A lot of feelings would be spared if we don’t make blanket statements against such a diverse group of Christians.

We do need to be polite to one another. Behind the individual posts on this forums are real humans who can be hurt by what we type.

If you want to start a thread on fighting Satan, do so. Maybe you’ll get the response that you desire.

I hope that you see the humor in that. I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way. I just found this part of your post funny.

There are a lot of antiCatholic sites and ignoring them doesn’t help. The only way to defeat them is to learn how to answer their claims. You’d be surprised at how often some of the silliest claims against the Catholic Church are brought up to me.

My goal is not to convert anyone, although that is nice if I influence someone. All I want is not to have to assure my Southern Baptist Friend that I am a Christian and not some worshiper of a Babylonian cult. Where do you think they get such craziness? From those websites that you are suggesting that we ignore.

Actually, the reason I said ‘anti-whatever’ is to include BOTH catholic and protestant in this. I am not really complaining about how people are treated but more the reaction we give to those who show anti-insert your belief system here. My whole point is that we need to toughen up and not take things so personally…

To be fair, this is an apologetics forum. It is specifically intended to be a place where we can hash out our differences.

If this were an ecumenical board, I don’t think it would have as wide an audience.

And I am not saying that there is anything wrong with having diffrent opinions or expressing them. BUT the problem comes when we can’t keep from getting nasty or sarcastic. It tells the other person that you don’t respect them nor do you try to eminate Christ when attacking someone for their beliefs. THIS GOES FOR BOTH SIDES. We, as brothers and sisters in Christ, are two sides of the SAME COIN. We both love Christ and we should be working together to spread the news of what He has to offer us. But instead… Well, you read my original post!

You are correct. I get frustrated when people forget to be polite. It doesn’t matter how aggravating the other person is being. Heck, if he is rude enought, this only helps my side because it makes me look good. But if I respond negatively or by reacting sarcastically, then I am bringing myself down to his level. That is something that I don’t want to do.

I might not be able to influence the person debating me but someone who is just reading the threads might say, hey, those Christians were polite and thoughtful even when the other person was rude. Maybe I should look into their faith more.

Jesus Christ was Crucifyed on a “tree”.

He is being “crucifyed” again and again, and some still say “Boo Hoo” to it all.

Guns were not around at the time of Christ.

Fighting Satan? The Catholic Church has been doing it longer and stronger than anyone else, and will never be defeated by Satan.

I appreciate your opinion and hope that you can find the love of Christ towards your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ (protestants) as you own church has done. Jesus did not die for the church. He died for the sinners. I have NOT rejected Jesus and I hope that someday you can see past your hatred to realize this. But this is between you and Christ. Not me. So I leave it in His hands.

You brought it up. You seem to think that if Jesus is only ignored or rejected online, its not a biggie. But, if someone has a gun in the mix, its suddenly serious.
NOPE. Its always serious when we speak about Christ. Drama notwithstanding, rejection of Him is no less signifigant.

You know, I went back to re-read my post and you are interjecting a LOT of things that I never said. I understand that you don’t like my faith. It could be that you don’t understand it but hey, that is ok because I KNOW my Faith. I cannot control how people perceive me or perceive my faith so when they attack it, as you have by saying I reject Christ, I just turn the other cheek and try to correct (in love) any misgivings that they have stated about my faith. It doesn’t ALWAYS happen and I pray to God for forgiveness after asking the person I have offended for forgiveness whenever I react to their hate. I never said that it was ‘OK’ for people to be and act anti-anything that has to do with Christ I just said that christians need to suck it up and start finding constructive ways of counter-acting the hatred rather than complaining about it. This board is a GOOD start but this post was just about the fact that we need to stop the whining…

This really is the only thing that I feel I must address from your post.

#1. You are frustrated. At least this is what you portray in your posts on this thread and others I have encountered you on.

#2. I don’t mean to accuse you of not loving protestants but your posts indicate that you have a huge dislike for protestants. If this is not what you mean to convey then maybe you should look at how you post. On the internet it is hard to read people but if someone sees something in your post over and over then perhaps it is time to change how you post. I will leave this response to your dislike of protestants to your own words:

#3. I stand by what I said when I say Jesus did not die for the church but for the sinners. If you can differentiate between the church and the people who make up the church then you can say agree. I have often heard ‘oh, it isn’t the church (whether protestant or catholic) that molested those children it was individuals within the church.’ or ‘the teachings of the church never change it is people’s interpretation of those teachings that change’. So there is a difference between the church and the sinners.

#4. Again, read #2. It is what I perceive in your post. I am not trying to accuse you of anything. I don’t know you. BUT your posts convey a certain degree of hatred towards protestantism. When you accuse me of rejecting Christ that is a form of hatred to me. I would never say this about anyone who claims to follow Him. It is harsh, rude, and really does nothing to keep the lines of communication open. It is exactly the type of fire starter that I talk about in these posts that makes people not listen to the other side and takes focus off of Christ and back on the ‘I’m right you’re wrong’ mentality that is just futile in discussing apologetics.

Not really. I am trying to find constructive ways of STOPPING the whining. Whining would be for me to say I don’t like it and to complain but not to try to find ways to get around it.

Actually this thread is not a challenge. It is a meeting point to TRY to figure out how to stop the bickering. I want everyone’s opinions. Thought that was clear but apparently it wan’t.

That isn’t a brainstorm. It’s a cop-out. To say we can’t even try here on earth is saying you aren’t willing to try. IMHO.

Jesus did not approve of multiple denominations.

I don’t believe that multiple denoms is an equivalent to dis-unity. WE may worship differently but we believe the essential. Christ died for US so that we may be able to be with Him. We may have different ideas on how to do things but we are working towards the same goal. If we could join forces this world would be in for a major shocker!

I don’t mind repeating myself. Your posts say something different. I, as a protestant, see hate in your posts towards protestants. I could be wrong. I am not accusing you of hating protestants just pointing out what I see in your posts. IF you do not wish this to be portrayed then maybe you should take a look at how you word things. I think I am one of 2 that even bothered to see it. Both of us are Catholic, and no protestant comment yet as far as I know.
Guess there are more important threads to worry about.
