Bood instead of Body

I went to the adoration Chapel and intend of the Blessed Sacrament was the blood of Christ. I know is the same thing but why isn’t that common?

Is it possible you saw something like this? If so, it was a ciborium which contained the consecrated hosts. These would still be the Body **and ** Blood of Christ.

It would be extremely unlikely that it was a chalice containing the consecrated wine.

I don’t know if this is much of an answer, but traditionally the Precious Blood would be consumed by the celebrant priest during the Mass while there would usually be consecrated Hosts left over from Communion. Not to mention there is a greater chance of sacrilege occurring if the Precious Blood is left out; it’s physically wine -thus being a liquid has a greater chance of spilling, and having dust mixed with it.

The Precious Blood is only extremely rarely reserved, like in the case of administering Holy Communion to bedridden celiacs.

This may sound very odd, but - could it have been a sanctuary lamp? In our parish, we use red glass containers, like wide-necked bottles, and a plastic tube goes in them which contains a soft candle. If this was taken out of its usual holder high up on the sactuary wall, and just stood on an altar (as is done at the Altar of Repose, as there’s no wall -bracket handy over there) it could very well look like a bottle of red wine/Precious Blood.

Perhaps the Blessed Sacrament was in a small bowl or pyx which you could not see, and the lamp was beside It.

This would be very odd, so that’s why others are asking about alternate explanations of what you saw.

How do you know it was a bottle of the Precious Blood? (Which should almost never be reserved, and never in a glass bottle ever)

I don’t know how to say. What i saw in the adoration Chapel was a glass bottle with " wine" or the Blood of Christ if it was consecrate.

The parish I grew up in, on Holy Thursday only, uses both species in adoration. An extra cruet, with a small amout of wine & a large round host on a paten, are placed at the “alter of repose” until adoration time is over. The host is put with the others in a special tabernacle in the rectory and the priest consumes the precious blood & purifies the vessel.

I love the fuller sign value it gives to Holy Thursday adoration, but I am reluctant to think that is a good idea any other time. It seems like just asking for trouble, so why take the chance?
