Book by or about St. Bernard of Clairvaux?

I’m looking recommendations on books about or by St. Bernard of Clairveax.

I would prefer something written by the saint rather than a commentary, but please suggest something if you think it to be exceptional. Anything particular to St. Bernard’s Marian theology and devotion would be warmly welcomed, or anything specific about prayer. I prefer something spiritual rather than theology.

How about “The Spiritual Teachings of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux” by John R. Sommerfeldt?

Are these spiritual works or more theology?

I remember reading a book by/about St. Bernard in my parish library
for those who attend Eucharistic adoration … I should be going
there late Sunday night at the latest and can let you know by

Spiritual? Theology? Difficult to read? Can you compare to other authors, theologians, mystics or saints?

“The Soul of the Apostolate” is a great work by Dom Chautard, a Cistercian. This is broader than just about St. Bernard.

It’s a very influential work on prayer and contemplation as a basis for the active life, but being a Cistercian, the good abbot heavily quotes and relies upon St. Bernard.

Well if you pray the Liturgy of the Hours his writings come up occasionally in the Office of Readings. I use a 2-year monastic lectionary for the readings of Vigils (as the Office of Readings is still known in monasteries); it has rather more readings from St. Bernard but in French/Latin.

They are among my favorite patristic readings.
