Book/movie on the Shroud

Can you please recommend a book and/or movie about the Shroud of Turin?
 
On this forum you will in general find, as is usual on Catholic forums, as well as generally online, an overrepresentation of websites citing a lot of bad facts in support of the Shroud.

If you wish to get some critical insight in say, why an invisible weave can’t be an explanation of the age of the Shroud, and an interesting discussion between @undead_rat and someone else. Then go to this thread and scroll down until you reach @Hugh_Farey’s posts. His critical insights are wonderful.

Very kind of Leonhardprintz to mention me. If anyone wants to find detailed accounts of all the latest research, including detailed references to primary sources, you could do worse than a couple of papers I have recently published at academia.edu. The Medieval Shroud is an account of what the Shroud might actually be, and The Medieval Shroud 2 is an explanation of why it probably isn’t authentic.

But I’ll be very happy to discuss specific questions here, if you like!
 
You’re welcome, having a person putting out some critical information is a rarity to see when it comes to the shroud, and your mild manner is refreshing. I learned a lot from your interactions with @undead_rat

And I’m very excited to read your articles. Thanks for posting that!
 
Thanks for posting. I’ll have to have a good read if I remember to. :crazy_face: I’m inclined to believe it is not authentic too, but it represents so much history and has supported the faith of so many people. So it will always remain relevant and it is certainly an interesting relic all by itself. I guess I’d just have to say if one physical item is the basis of your faith, it may be time to talk to your local priest.

I’ll second that recommendation. Unlike many authenticists, Mark is considerate and polite, and ready to listen to all points of view, even mine!, even if he doesn’t think them justified.
 
I recommend the works of Shroud historian Ian Wilson. His latest book, THE SHROUD, 2010, is still available in paperback for a small price. If you can find a used hardcover, it is worth the extra.

THE SHROUD OF TURIN: FIRST CENTURY AFTER CHRIST! (2015) is a cutting edge work by Italian academics Fanti and Malfi. It debunks the British Museum’s conclusion that the Shroud’s 1988 C-14 evidence was proof of a date. Unfortunately this book retails for about $80.00.
