My husband’s men’s group is reading Daniel and after finishing the part about the fiery furnace mentioned the part where his accusers were thrown to the lions with women and children.
He is always troubled with things in the Old Testament. Anything I can say? I’m not sure how to answer.
Thanks,
mlz
Daniel was a prisoner and he was sent to be executed (Death penalty)
God protected him because he had a mission.
The people that had accuded Daniel were trown into the fire once the king saw the miracle that had happened to Daniel.
The way people behaved in ancient cultures shock us. We are accustomed to a more “civilized” society although sometimes I doubt that very much.
Consider the Aztecs and Mayan cultures.
They carried out human sacrifices regularly. It was gruesome, they plunged a stone knife into the chest of the victim and the “priest” would yank out the still pulsating heart that would be offered to the deity. While the body would be trown down the stairs of the piramid.
Thousands of people were killed this way.
And yet how many babies have been murdered by dismemberemend in the last 50 years.
Or the millions of victims of oppressive communist governments.
When you contrast that with the stories in the OT they are quite mild actually
