Book of Jubilees?

I know during one of the Early Roman Catholic Councils they took this book outa the bible. I heard it was written in the first or second century A.D (I don’t like using the new term for A.D./B.C., personal preference). I want to know what you all think of this book??? And Why was it taken out? and a discussion on this quote from it:

“And there is no neglecting (this commandment) for a single year or from year to year.
And command thou the children of Israel that they observe the years according to this reckoning- three hundred and sixty-four days, and (these) will constitute a complete year, and they will not disturb its time from its days and from its feasts; for everything will fall out in them according to their testimony, and they will not leave out any day nor disturb any feasts.
But if they do neglect and do not observe them according to His commandment, then they will disturb all their seasons and the years will be dislodged from this (order), [and they will disturb the seasons and the years will be dislodged] and they will neglect their ordinances.
And all the children of Israel will forget and will not find the path of the years, and will forget the new moons, and seasons, and sabbaths and they will go wrong as to all the order of the years.
For I know and from henceforth will I declare it unto thee, and it is not of my own devising; for the book (lies) written before me, and on the heavenly tablets the division of days is ordained, lest they forget the feasts of the covenant and walk according to the feasts of the Gentiles after their error and after their ignorance.
For there will be those who will assuredly make observations of the moon -how (it) disturbs the seasons and comes in from year to year ten days too soon.
For this reason the years will come upon them when they will disturb (the order), and make an abominable (day) the day of testimony, and an unclean day a feast day, and they will confound all the days, the holy with the unclean, and the unclean day with the holy; for they will go wrong as to the months and sabbaths and feasts and jubilees.
For this reason I command and testify to thee that thou mayst testify to them; for after thy death thy children will disturb (them), so that they will not make the year three hundred and sixty-four days only, and for this reason they will go wrong as to the new moons and seasons and sabbaths and festivals, and they will eat all kinds of blood with all kinds of flesh.”

I find it interesting that they make mention of following the New Moon and that our year wouldn’t be even if we didn’t follow the New Moon??? Cause as stands with the standard following of our calender, we need a leap year to even out the year and scientifically it still doesn’t correct it. Each year we lose a minute or two of accuracy of keeping time! What do you think?

There were literally hundreds of books floating around in the early years of the Church. It wasn’t until the mid 300’s when the issue of which books were in fact worthy of being included in the Canon of Scripture was finally decided.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church includes it in their Canon of Scripture. It is basically an expansion of the Book of Genesis which goes into more detail than is found in Genesis in many areas.

It was well known and popular in the early Church, but was suppressed in the third and fourth centuries which I would imagine led in some part to it not being included in the current Canon of Scripture. As to why it was suppressed, who can really say at this point.

It was and that is all that really matters.

The books of the bible to be considered canonical had to be written before 100 AD, written by an apostle or a witness to an apostle, must not contradict christ and his known teaching. Also, the bishops must concur as one voice. Here is a video explaining the development

Cool. Thanks for explaining how the text was repressed. But no one has commented on the significance of the prophecy it speaks about with the calender year. I find coincidences not to be so coincidental. And I feel it to have some truth to it because our year is not accurately and evenly recorded as previously stated we lose about anywhere from a full minute to a few seconds of accurate time keeping a year. And need a leap year to even things out. What do you all think?

On the same topic of the Book Of Jubilees. I was just reading another post on here with a link to a Hebrew to English translation of Job. In it here is a direct quote:

7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee;

8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee;

Job was speaking and that’s what he said /. Interesting, cause if you read the book of Jubilee it speaks of the animals being able to talk and that God silenced them. I and others always comment how cats do talk. And sometimes I feel in their meows a certain ability if they were trained to be able to meow talk. And sometimes they meow as if to answer my questions or spoken thoughts, in some sort of meow agreement. I know this prob sounds like crazy talk. But if you have a pet, you might understand.

Is it possible that the animals could talk and God silenced them?

The oldest copy of the Book of Jubilees was found in the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and is estimated to be from around 150BC.

Although we can’t take Jubilees as infallible, I find that some of these apocryphal books had some truth from ancient Jewish tradition. I find it a fascinating possibility to ponder that animals were originally able to talk. It can be implied that before the tower of babel all peoples spoke one language. Perhaps this is the same language the animals spoke. I personally don’t think the idea of animals speaking is that weird. I know my dogs certainly understand particular words such as squirrel and pizza. My wife swears she heard her beloved dog once say ‘I love you’. You also can look up youtube videos of a husky dog that seems to talk. Of course parrots can mimic human speech. According to legend, St Francis was able to talk and even preach to animals including a wolf and a school of fish! Don’t forget in the Bible that a donkey talked to Balaam. It makes sense to me that it the pre fall world God, Man, Angels, and Animals could all communicate.
