Here’s an article on this newly-published version of the Book of Mormon.

Has anyone seen thisnew edition of the BoM? Do they agree, disagree with the writer of the article? Have a different take on it?

I’m cnsidering buying the new edition just because the LDS Church is exhorting non-members and members alike to re-read the BoM through at least once this year. See the following article:

If the new version is really easier to read, it might be worth the cost of buying and trying to re-read the thing. I don’t see any mention that the publisher abridged some of the more tiresome repetitive phrases, which would have been a great improvement on the text. The RLDS published one version of the BoM back in the 1970’s which DID make such abridgements, but I have never been able to find a copy of this for sale–it provoked much protest and was not widely disseminated as I understand it.

I have this edition and highly recomend it. The formatting is more like a typical book with paragraphs and quotes where they should be. Poetic structures found throughout the book are formatted in proper poetic form, etc. The text itself has not been changed (it’s the 1920 version – before they changed “exceeding” to “exceedingly” throughout the book) but the formatting makes a big difference.

Also, the forward and appendix information is excellent and includes the testimonies of two women that purportedly saw the plates as well as a section listing textual changes that have occurred since the first edition.
