Hi All

Please explain to me why Wisdom is called she: **Wisdom 7:The excellence of wisdom: how she is to be found. **

Wisdom 7: 11-12 “Now all good things came to me together with her, and innumerable riches through her hands, [12] And I rejoiced in all these: for this wisdom went before me, and I knew not that she was the mother of them all.”

Proverbs 9:1 “Wisdom hath built herself a house, she hath hewn her out seven pillars.”

The reason why I ask is because my close friend joined and is a member of a prophetic ministry. This is what they believe:

(I am MOMMA SHKHINAH, I am called ‘Wisdom’ and in Hebrew the RUACH ha KODESH and also called the HOLY SPIRIT. (In Greek wisdom is translated to Sophia)

(There is only one genuine HOLY MOTHER, and I am also called The HOLY SPIRIT. Do not believe the lies the Catholic Church is teaching as they take Miryam (Mary) YAHUSHUA’s earthly mother and join her together as part of the Holy Trinity. She was HIS earthly mother but I am HIS Heavenly Mother. )

I have answers for all the other false teachings against the Catholic Church from this ministry. This false teaching is new to me and I will appreciate if the she and her can be explained to me.

Please pray for my friend and his wife.

Well for a start you can tell them we don’t make Mary a member of the Trinity, and since Christ is eternal with no begining or end how is this ‘wisdom’ his mother in any sense?
My two cents on the book of wisdom is that it is the personification of the virtue of wisdom just as virtues, vices and attributes are thus personified on occasion. I’m not sure how they manage to get from Sophia to Holy Spirit though, do you know?
 
Catholics sometimes identify Holy Wisdom as the Holy Spirit, other times as the Son. Still other times Catholic authors will mention her in a more vague way as a sort of attribute of God, or even connect her analogically to Mary.

It seems to me that the best answer, which I believe is favored in Eastern Christianity, is to identify Holy Wisdom as the Logos, the Idea of God. In other words, as God the Son.

The connection between wisdom and knowledge (another translation of Logos could be “knowledge”) is part of what makes me lean this way. It would seem to me that God’s eternal Wisdom and His eternal Knowledge would equally consist in His eternal, perfect awareness of Himself as the essence of existence, and this is conventionally connected to the begetting of the Son. According to the same psychological analogy, the Holy Spirit would be associated with God’s Will/Love, which is less easy to connect to Wisdom than is Knowledge.

Another reason is the place of the Son in the inner life of the Trinity, which in the human family is reflected in the position of the wife/mother. The Son comes from the Father much as Eve came from Adam, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both of them much as a child comes from his or her parents.

In God’s relationship to us, Christ in a way takes on the role of the Father (Bridegroom), so that we, put into His role as Son (Bride), may enter into the inner life of God as the mystical body of Christ. This is one reason to ordinarily insist on using the masculine pronoun even for God the Son (His relationship to the Universe in the sense of His being the One God is another reason, and His masculinity in His human nature is yet another). But this doesn’t exclude another sense in which a feminine pronoun could be used when considering the receptive aspect of His relationship to the Father.

The early church fathers such as Justin Martyr and Ireneaus identified ‘Wisdom’ especially as spoken of in Proverbs 8, as the Logos, or Son of God. Sometimes they also identify ‘WIsdom’ as the Holy Spirit. The 'Shechinah glory" in Hebrew thought is spoken of in feminine terms as I recall.

If one were to read Proverbs 8, one will notice that God the Father created all things **through **WIsdom and for Wisdom. Thus, it seems that God the Father created all things for His only-begotten Son.
 
I happened to finish Wisdom just awhile back and am almost done with Proverbs atm. My interpretation of wisdom being personified is that it shows how we must look at wisdom as a mother or as someone we love or trust. We obey her and she keeps us to her bosom/nutures us/keeps us safe. Not to mention the verse almost challenges us to think about it (the verse itself) in a deeper manner - increasing our wisdom in the process. Even with that interpretation one just knows there are tons of other things to gain from those few verses.

Now I am honored to share this secret with those who will recognize the voice of the RUACH ha KODESH. This might be the most controversial prophecy ever released thus far.
In Proverbs and Psalms do you know that wisdom is called a ‘She’? Without any further hesitation let me explain how I learned the name of the precious RUACH ha KODESH also called the Holy Spirit. Here goes sharing the most intimate secret yet released to me and yet the most blessed one thus far.

Hebrew word for “spirit” (Ruach) is feminine, meaning that for the 1st Century Christians.

It was lost in the translation from Hebrew into Greek, and then it was changed to a masculine gender when it was translated from Greek into Latin.

The word ‘Wisdom’ in Greek is translated to the word ‘Sophia’ which is a female name.

So especially when your reading the KJV bible where the New Testament is translated in Greek, Wisdom should be translated to Sophia. What was the purpose of transcribers not adding that? In these end times the truth that has been hidden is being revealed for these end times.
My understanding is that the word wisdom must be changed to sophia according to this ministry.

They also believe The Book of Wisdom is one of the lost Books. Isn’t that strange?

I agree with you. It just shows how false prophets can twist scripture.

Just remember that in rejecting heretical concepts of Sophia we must not reject orthodox concepts as well. Remember that the largest church building of Constantinople (and for a long time of the world) was the Hagia Sophia.
 
First off, let’s be clear about grammatical gender. Grammatical gender is fun, but it means nothing. Nobody cares whether language X uses the masculine, feminine, or neuter gender for umbrellas. It might make it more likely that a kid’s book or a poem would talk about Mr. Umbrella instead of Miss Umbrella, but that’s about it.

“Ruach” is breath, wind, or spirit in Hebrew. The word is in the feminine gender.
“Pneuma” is breath or spirit in Greek. The word is in the neuter gender.
“Spiritus” is spirit in Latin. The word is in the masculine gender.

“Chokmah” is wisdom in Hebrew. The word is in the feminine gender.
“Sophia” is wisdom in Greek. The word is in the feminine gender.
“Sapientia” is wisdom in Latin. The word is in the feminine gender.
 
Holy Wisdom in the Bible is understood as manifold–as a personification of an eternal attribute of God, as human understanding, as the Hebrew law, and as a Spirit that is a divine emanation of God. Not only is Wisdom called “she”, but she is described as bride and mother and is co-creator with God and an all-powerful reflection and spotless mirror of his glory. And so on and so on. This is not just a grammatical distinction of feminine gender. Wisdom is thoroughly identified as female. See not only the Book of Wisdom and Proverbs, but Sirach (Eccesiasticus) as well. The Catholic Church officially teaches that Wisdom is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit received at confirmation. Jesus is called Wisdom Incarnate, and Mary is called Seat of Wisdom. In the liturgy, Mary is identified repeatedly with Wisdom, and many Catholic writers have also made this association. Thomas Merton described Wisdom as the Mother/feminine aspect of God, and Mary as a personal manifestation of Wisdom. The catechism states that God is pure spirit, neither male nor female, but possesses the perfect qualities of both Father and Mother. Julian of Norwich called the Son of God “Mother Jesus” and “Mother Christ.” Wisdom is also often associated with the Holy Spirit in Catholicism, and the Bible itself describes Wisdom as a holy Spirit. Jesus is both the Divine Logos and Sophia/Wisdom, and Mary is identified with Wisdom by virtue of her Divine Motherhood. Wisdom, according to the Bible, dwells in holy souls from generation to generation, and she was told by God to make her home in Israel (in the line of Jacob). It is apparent that Wisdom found her central dwelling place in Mary, the Immaculate Conception.
 
One of the patristic guys, St. Methodius of Olympus (as opposed to the Ss. Cyril and Methodius St. Methodius) has a wonderful dialogue called by various names: “The Banquet of the Ten Virgins,” etc.

Anyway, it’s modelled after philosophy “symposium” dialogues (a symposium was a wine-drinking and chat party), but in this one, we actually get to attend one of Wisdom’s banquets, along with a bunch of female saints she’s invited to come. It’s got a lot of witty comments as well as deep theology to chew on, so basically it’s very fun.

Anyway, if you’re interested in the personified figure of Wisdom, it’s a useful read.
