Weeks ago I’d stumbled across an author who has done numerous works on the Inquisition and other aspects of the Medieval church, perhaps the crusades included, and the gist of his work was that the Inquisition wasn’t the thought-police nightmare it’s made out to be. I don’t know if the author was Catholic or just sympathetic; I believe his first name was Thomas. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I’d take thoughtful examinations of the Inquisition in general, really. I’ve recently begun to realize how much of my early European history has been shaped by Protestant bias.
