Book on the Angelican Reformation

I am looking for a very simple book, article, essay, or talk on the Reformation in England.

I really don’t know much about and would like to verse myself in it a bit more.

What I am especially looking for are the Martyrdom accounts and how England treated the Catholics during this time.

Any help would be great.

I got a feeling that you are going to get some recommendations for books by Belloc. I’ve collected Belloc for many, many years, love him dearly, and I can understand why a RC would recommend him. If that happens.

Me, I’d recommend Duffy’s THE STRIPPING OF THE ALTARS, Scarisbrick’s HENRY VIII (by far the best avaliable bio) and maybe Hogge’s SECRET AGENTS OF GOD. Off the top of my head.

I don’t think these would cause anyone’s eyebrows to rise.

I got a feeling that you are going to get some recommendations for books by Belloc. I’ve collected Belloc for many, many years, love him dearly, and I can understand why a RC would recommend him. If that happens.

I recommend How the Reformation Happened by said author

Warren Carroll also has a good series title the History of Christendom which covers the Reformation among other topics.

Or, CHARACTERS OF THE REFORMATION. He also did a 4 volume history of England, one of which covers that time period.

Belloc is fun. But he is not well-rounded.

Oh, all right. THE BEGINNINGS OF THE ENGLISH REFORMATION, by Hugh Ross Williamson. Short, 113 pages, by a former CoE priest, RC convert, and I don’t agree with much of it. Might be what you’re looking for.
