Can anyone recommend a book on the Church Fathers please? I have heard many say that it was the Church Fathers that brought them to Catholicism. What would be a good book to start with?

Many thanks,

Hal.

“Imitation of Christ” “On the Incarnation” Oooh! Here’s a good one! “Introduction to the Devout Life” That last one is good. Oh, there’s also the Marian whatchamacallit by St. Louis de Montfort. It may not seem church-father’s esque, but it will have a lot of unexpected benefits to the spiritual life. Aaaand if none of this makes sense it’s because it’s 3am here and I’m just trying to stay awake at work.

“The Fathers Know Best” by Jimmy Akin, published by Catholic Answers.
“Four Witnesses: The Early Church in Her Own Words” by Rod Bennett, published by Ignatius Press.

A fairly new book (just published last year) which has gotten excellent reviews is When the Church Was Young: Voices of the Early Fathers by Marcellino D’Ambrosio Ph.D. I haven’t read it myself though.
