A friend of mine recently recommended a book entitled ‘Rediscovering Catholicism: Journeying Toward Our Spiritual North Star’ by Matthew Kelly. Has anyone here read this work or any of Mr. Kelly’s other pieces? She described it as a type of Catholic ‘Self-help’ book and I just want to make sure I’m not wasting my leisure-reading time with some new-age feel-good gibberish.

Any insight from the vast wisdom of the forum would be greatly appreciated.

Although I have not personally read anything by Matthew Kelly, I know that his books typically sit on the list of best-selling Catholic books. I have never heard him described as “New Age” or heterodox, but I don’t know enough about him or his books to vouch for him, either.

You might try looking at his website: matthewkelly.org/about_mk.html

He’s selling loads of books, but I’m not sure who’s reading them. 🤷 (None of the “liberals” or “conservatives” that I know read his books.) His website has an endorsement by Joseph Girzone (author of the Joshua series that many people have problems with), but then one of Kelly’s talks is also distributed by Lighthouse Catholic Media (who also distributes CDs by Scott Hahn, Steve Ray, Fr. Corapi, and many more such orthodox Catholics).

The fact that he’s so popular and well-known and that I haven’t heard anything bad about him would seem to indicate that he’s at least worth a shot. If he was that popular and was spreading heresy, I’m sure I would have heard about it somewhere.
