Book recommendation fiction

How about Christian fiction? They are almost always clean, and some are quite inspiring. If they have sex it is just a mention (not graphic) and is almost always marital unless it’s part of a story line about redemption and all.

How about Catholic fiction too?

I enjoyed the Kristin Lavransdatter series, by Sigrid Undset, immensely. The author is a Catholic convert, and she won an award for the books. I think it was written in the twenties or thirties. It’s more of a saga. It might be a bit slow to get into, but I got very invested in the characters. They felt like real people, like I personally know them. There are mature themes, but they’re themes of life. (There are mature themes in the Bible itself.)

Anglewannabe, just so you know – ***A Tree Grows in Brooklyn ***doesn’t have any explicit content, but it DOES mention premarital sex, extramarital affairs, bigamy, and even prostitution. Although certainly, there is no detail given to any of it. .

Well, I have started the book and yes, I have seen a bit of it. However, it is so subtle, sometimes I am not sure what is meant by it. Also, it is NOT promoting it as OK but more or less pointing out what is going on with an undertone that it is sad that Francie is growing up like that.

Well, and there’s also a pedophile, though again, it’s not particularly explicit, and it’s handled more in the sense of “the adults taking good care of their kids in a bad situation” than a voyeuristic sort of thing.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is in my top 5 favorite books of all time; I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I read it at least once a year… when I was young, I so identified with Francie, but as I’ve grown older, I understand her mother more and more. And I still cry in certain parts.
