I’m interested in some (name removed by moderator)ut here. Given the statement of faith below, if you could pass on one Catholic book to a person who holds to this faith and has a masters of divinity supportive of this statement of faith, what would it be?
We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.
We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Advocate.
We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer to godly living and service.
We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit, and thus become children of God.
We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are to be observed by the church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation.
We believe that the true church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the Head.
We believe in the personal and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this “Blessed Hope” has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
Along with millions of Evangelicals worldwide, we also subscribe to the World Evangelical Alliance Statement of Faith.
Thank you, Pork

Good question, looking forward to reading other people’s answers.

My go-to recommendation for Evangelicals is Alan Schreck’s Catholic and Christian. Tom Howard’s Evangelical is Not Enough is another oldie-but-goodie. But for someone with an MDiv I might suggest something by Peter Kreeft, maybe the Handbook of Catholic Apologetics. Or maybe even Cardinal Ratzinger’s book God is Near Us: The Eucharist, The Heart of Life.

I’m also very impressed with Brant Pitre and Scott Hahn’s Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist: Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper, not written in an academic tone but impressively researched.

Porknpie,

I automatically thought of Charles Mingus’s tune “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat.”

I second Schreck’s “Catholic and Christian.” It’s easy reading and I think the best Catholic apologetics book out there.

I am thinking rather of the webpage, www.calledtocommunion.com. It has many former Protestant ministers who have become Catholic by studying early Church history, the Early Church Fathers, and faith with reason.

Perhaps you could recommend this site to someone who is highly educated in the discipline of Divinity.

On this site, they share their faith journey and how they came to the Catholic Church, using theological points that were answered by Catholicism. It took them time to work through the process, the intellectual hurdles, and finding the missing links our faith provides.
