Hi friends,

I am discerning to be a religious brother. May I ask what books can you recommend for me to read? I ordered The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. I purchased it because he was a brother and I think I could really relate to him. May I ask for other books you can think of? 🙂

Thank you and God bless.

The Imitation of Christ - if you do not have it.
Anything by Fr. Jacques Philippe - a retreat master and living Saint.

introduction to the devout life

the sayings of the desert fathers

the seven storey mountain

Little Flowers of St. Francis

I already have “The Imitation of Christ”. Noted on the others. Thank you! 🙂

I think you would find the seven storey mountain the most interesting, since thomas merton was a secular man who abandoned the secular life to become a monk. The sayings of the desert fathers is timeless and priceless so you should read it without thinking twice.

The two greatest Catholic mystics of all time.

Interior Castle by Saint Teresa of Avila.
The Dark Night of the Soul by Saint John of the Cross.

If you go to Amazon, you can buy both books in “Dover Thrift Edition” paperbacks for less than $7.

But, careful, as there are new age and Eastern religion proponents who have ripped the titles off, subtly leading some of the faithful astray.
