Father James Martin: My Life with the Saints (Loyola Press, 2006)

I have bought four copies for friends and all have loved it. It is much more than a life of the saints. It is also about Father Martin’s spiritual journey and how they have guided and informed his life. Of course, the lives of the major saints are covered as well. The writing is lively and I have already read it twice this year. It is available in hardcover and paperback ($10.85 at Amazon.com).

I loved this book. We read it in our parish book club, my pastor preaches on it whenever he gets the chance and I give it as gifts all the time.

Do you have a particular area of interest? Butler’s Lives of the Saints is going to be the most comprehensive in terms of quantity of saints talked about, but if you have a particular area of interest (mystics, married saints, incorrupt saints, etc.), there are other books that you might be interested in.

I’m looking for something comprehensive that will introduce me to many of the saints, and will shoot off from there for specifics. Looks like I’ll be getting Butler’s book – thank you all!
