Try to pick up the Diary of St. Maria Faustina which has many messages directly from the Lord Jesus. It is the book for the times we are living in.

My mother was involved with this group of women. I grew up in the church where Mrs. Christenson was the pastor’s wife.
Yes, it’s a Protestant book, but it contains a lot of basic “how to’s” about prayer that apply to Catholics as well as Protestants. The book is interesting and easy to read, and filled with personal anecdotes that are very inspiring.

Anything by Fr Philippe (Scepter Publishers sells his books). I have read them all and heard him speak in NYC this year. His writings are really simple but so profound. He reminds me of Padre Pio.
