I forgot about Screwtape Letters… I think that and Mere Christianity might be a good help (he is soon to turn age 30).

These are a lot of great suggestions. Thanks everyone!

By the way. My friend’s openness is a testament to the fact that:
  1. you cannot give up on anyone… nor can you give up on praying.
  2. A Catholic should not hang around ONLY with practicing Catholics. I have had this friend since high school… through thick and thin… after my conversion, his life had not necessarily changed (still same old partying). He is currently living with his fiance (sadly, as does almost everyone of my peers, Catholic or not). Many people might choose to never go to his home. I, however, wanted to maintain our friendship, and keep the avenue for discussion open. Of course, I would never spend time with friends who brought me into serious sin or such temptations… you have to avoid company that is destructive to the soul.
Who knows what God will work in him… and how open he will remain. All I know is that I am one of the few people that he trusted with the very vulnerable position of inquiring into the Faith. If I had simply turned my back on him because my moral life conflicted with his in many ways, I am not sure that we would be having these conversations today.

Also, his fiance is a long-time friend of us both. She grew up with more of a Catholic upbringing (*incl. Catholic college, etc.). The two of them may both come home to the Faith through one another and with the aid of the Holy Spirit.

I guess it just depends on the type of person…
My husband is an engineer (actually so am I), so logic plays a huge part in our discussions on spirituality.
The catechism is his favorite tool for evangelization at work (where there are other logic hungry engineers)… and he’s sponsored friends into the church using this approach…

Don’t dismiss it too early… 👍

But you know this guy’s personality… so use his interests and gifts in your evangelization tools…
👍
It is great to hear of the valor of your family. Sharing the faith in Jesus Christ is so important!
