Book: Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger

Several months ago I started a thread after reading the book Where We Got the Bible: Our Debt to the Catholic Church. On that thread someone recommended I read the book Why Catholic Bibles Are Bigger: The Untold Story of the Lost Books of the Protestant Bible.

My kudos to the poster who recommended this book. It is excellent!! It also helped me understand the, what often seem like countless different versions, of the Protestant Bible. I also learned a lot. For example, I had thought Luther had removed the books, based on what I had read on some threads here. But I learned that he didn`t remove them, but moved them to the “appendix” because that the time there was fear other Protestants would think that was “going too far” etc.

This book is a great book for Catholics and non-Catholic Christians alike! I highly recommend it.

I also bought this book. I second your recommendation.
 
The author was on CA Live on Sep. 10, 2007. You can listen to the show and get a good feel for what he talks about in the book. I bought the book after listening to the show!

Have you considered the dept you owe to the Jews for giving you the Bible?

Sure - that is why the Church teaches Catholicism is the fulfillment of Judaism. We thank them for the OT writings.

Actually, I thank God for both His written word, as preserved in the Bible, and for his oral word, as preserved through the Catholic Church.

The truth is, when one takes the position that Israel as a nation, land and people, have no more prophetic signifigance, then your bible has gotten ALOT thinner.

As some apologetics say-“God owes nothing to the Jews today.”

Well if these apologetics checked their bibles, they would find out God never owed anything to anyone. But God says he will restore Israel not because they deserve it, but because of his name’s sake.

Its wierd, some want more hebrew writings in their canon, but don’t want the nation they got the writings from in God’s prophecy.
