Do any of you on this board have the habit of reading books about the Bible instead of the Bible itself?

I like reading the Bible accompanied by a good Catholic Bible Commentary and Concordance.

Many reading the Bible fall into the error of self-interpretation. That’s a Martin Luther concept, that proved to be a dangerous practice. There are now 2,500 Lutheran sects and some 30,000 subsects who all interpret the Bible in their own way.

A good bible commentary book is a must, and makes the reading of the scriptures more enjoyable and educational. One of the best ways to know our Catholic faith.

Another good way to know our faith is to read apologetics books. I was surprised at how much I didn’t know when I started delving into Catholic apologetics.
