Books By Those Far From Him

Based on posts here, I decided to check out “A Call To Joy” by Matthew Kelly. I stopped ( actually felt like throwing it down, if not across the room :mad:) at the second page when he started recounting God speaking to him. I can’t relate to that, as it will never happen to me, and I’m actually tired of those types of books. So, are there any books along those lines by people who never heard, had no contact of any kind or felt never close to Him despite “trying” and wanting to be? It seems most spirituality authors have Him on speed dial.
 
Depends on if that results in bad literature. Leon Bloy wrote about those farthest from God, yet who experienced a grace that average ‘godly’ people don’t. His book Disagreeable Tales is magnificent. The tale of the miser and his money is the best short story I’ve ever read.

Or the idea that the depths of humanity ala Au Hasard Balthazar can impart an idea of God to the audience. Take Journey to the End of the Night by Louis Ferdinand Celine. It’s hard to imagine a darker novel. Anyone who proclaims themselves a cynic should read it and face what they are embracing. Yet when I was at the depths of agnosticism reading that novel made me realize that good exists, that it has to.

Those are my thoughts. And proclaiming anyone as ‘far from him’ is beyond my pay grade. I don’t know what God is doing with those individuals.
 
Try Abandonment to Divine Providence. I am reading that in sync with The Spiritual Combat. It’s helping me out.
