Books for the Catholic curious?

I would like some book recommendations about Catholic belief and Christ. I grew up in the church but left before my confirmation when my mother stopped going. I’m 40 now and have received a calling to come back to the church. I’ve contacted the church where I will soon be moving about starting RCIA classes, but I’m not able to do that at this exact time. I’d like some reading material but there is so much, I don’t know where to begin. Thanks!

I suggest starting with the Summa Theologica by Thomas Aquinas

Don’t worry, it’s only about 3000 pages

He is very prolific at producing online content, and you can easily find many videos he has made on Catholic theology, and he does a good job of using terms that anyone can understand, from sports metaphors to pop-culture references.

The first two books i read were The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth and Catholic for a Reason.

Both were really good and informative. I know you said you were 40ish but the sometimes the youth/teen books breaks things down really well and can be easier to read.

Rome Sweet Home by Dr. Scott Hahn, for starters.

This. Rome Sweet Home is not very long and is super easy to read, so it doesn’t take much time to get through it.

Also What Catholics Really Believe by Karl Keating. It’s a handy quick reference on a variety of topics. When you’re questioning something or learning about something and need another explanation, you can easily find it in the book and then place it back on the shelf.
