If you think calling someone a Korihor is a compliment, I will accept your editing of my post.

As for Bushman’s book being balanced and unbiased, I believe it is among the best of them. I just finished reading Grant Hardy’s new book Understanding the Book of Mormon. It is probably also is as good a book as a Mormon could write about his religion.
I’ve got both of those, guess I should start reading them!

I may be interested in reading Grant Hardy’s book, because I do have fond memories of the Mormons I knew.

I don’t have fond memories. However, I know they aren’t all like that. Never had any problems with RLDS, though. That is the reason I get along so well with Dale Broadhurst. Resolution of my anger is the reason I undertook this project.

Rebecca, there is some good stuff in there. I guess I wanted to find something good about Mormonism. Took some digging, and discovered that most of the good stuff came from old Sol. The only thing is, they are so caught up in their lies, they can’t understand what an acute satire it is of religious fundamentalism it is, and how far they have departed from it.

I see…I have voiced my own anger about us being an abomination…but I will try to read…

I don’t know that it really matters who actually wrote the BoM. There are plenty of evidences that show it to be a work of fiction, and no evidence that supports it as anything else.

.
Really? What evidence? I see no plenty of evidence. What I do see, are 11 witnesses who went to their grave testifying about the book of mormon and what they saw. And even david whitmer had his testimony put on his tombstone. Why would David do that if he believed it to be a work of fiction. But…it is okay to say what you said, if it makes you feel better. 🙂

Who are they? You do realize that if I were an atheist, I can write: The only thing is, christians are so caught up in their lies, they can’t understand what an acute satire the bible is and how far it comes from the truth.

To say that mormons lie is an insult to all mormons.

And yet, when joseph shared his experience, all churches found his information an abomination. Question: when we consider the religous wars against catholics and protestants that engulfed europe I do think that god would consider that an abomination. And when we consider the persecutions that christians inflicted on each other, god could consider that an abomination too. Not to mention the corruption between church and state. God may consider that an abomination too. And the future at that time did not look too bright for Indians as the christian west was set on destroying them. Would god consider that an abomination too?

So, was god correct if he referred to the religions of the day as abominable?

Why Me:
And you claim that Mormons never did anything abominable? The things people have done through history, claiming God led them to do it, have been abominable, Mormons and Catholics included. It is part of man’s nature, I suppose, to blame God.

I just pray that people have the wisdom to understand what God’s will really is for us. To do charitable works, and treat other people as God’s creation, fully human. THIS, many Mormons do not do.

And God also found the MMM, the Danites, and the priesthood ban abominable.

I corrected your post. You really need to read up on your sources and not rely on critical of mormonism sites. I would recommend Rough Stone Rolling by Richard Bushman for starter. It is published by knopf in 2005. You may discover that there was no con. 🙂
I read the Bushman Book…I believe it actually shows how Joe was a conman.

🤷 You can try, but my experiences is the the more you try, the more you see how sad the situation really is. Hopeless really, were it not for Jesus Christ who gives Hope to even Mormons.

This does not mean I do not see Mormons themselves in the light of Jesus Christ. This is what is good about us all.

Yeah, you can reach some of the people some of the time, but never all of the people at all times. I only do what I can. It is not me who does it, but :heaven::harp::signofcross:

And yet, protestants can claim the same toward catholics. 😊 Most mormons are happy being mormon. They live their life as best they can with christ in the center of their lives. As a catholic, I would be more concerned with catholics who are not living their faith. That is where sadness should be put.

And what does all this have to do with JS’s library is beyond me. 🙂

Really? What evidence? I see no plenty of evidence.

Then I would suggest opening your eyes.
  1. No one has idea where the book took place. B of M lands are as real as Narnia.
  2. No one has found a city, the burial of the hundreds of thousands of bodies that died in the wars.
  3. Science has shown that many of the things claimed to have existed in the Book of Mormon did not, in fact, exist.
Just to name a few

What I do see, are 11 witnesses who went to their grave testifying about the book of mormon and what they saw.
  1. 11 witnesses who, according to Martin Harris, only saw the books with Spiritual eyes.
  2. 11 witnesses who were called liars by Joseph Smith.
  3. 11 Witnesses so involved with this criminal conspiracy that they could ever reveal the truth
Just to name a few

Where was your indignation when Parker and Diana claimed that all antis lie?

There you go again trying to pass jusgment on things that happened several centuries ago using today’s moral lenses. I am sure God think many things many people do are abominations, but that does not mean he thinks WE are abominations. I am sure he thought what David regarding Bathsheba to be an abomination, yet he did not consider David an Abomination.

If one were to look at all the bad the LDS did in its first 150 years, maybe he would find THAT an abomination.

Bottom line, God has always detested the sin but loved the sinner. Jesus made a promise that he would have to break in order for the Joe to be right. That did not happen.

No contemporary writings in regards to anything, at all, in this so-called “Reformed Egyptian”. No cultural indications for a people with Jewish and/or Judeo-Christian beliefs. No original manuscript.

No Torah mentioned in the BoM, in the Americas, or even found. Which, is unthinkable for anyone claiming that Hebrews were living in the Americas.

It’s like none of this ever existed. :newidea:

Yes, this is certainly interesting. It’s interesting to see the books Smith allegedly had, and to think about how those things may have ended up in his theology and “scriptures”.

Mormons, have there been any studies into the cultures of the various Native American peoples to see any connections or vestiges of Book of Mormon/Hebrew thought, culture, religion, etc.?
