I happened to be at the library this weekend and saw this new biography on Mother Angelica by Raymond Arroyo sitting on the “new release” shelf. I had just read (on Amazon.com) the rave reviews about it and put it on my wish list to buy. But since I saw it right there at the library, I took it out right away.

People let me tell you - this book is one heck of a page turner! It kept me glued all weekend! It’s amazing and wonderful how God used this little Poor Clare nun to lead America and then the world back on the path to Orthodox Catholicism - starting with a small television station started in the monastery garage. By God’s providence, this little television station, grew into the global Catholic Network it is today - teaching the truth, magisterium and doctrines to all peoples of the entire world.

After Vatican II, the Church in America was on a downward spiral, with progressive and liberal clergy beginning to spread erroneous Church doctrine to the faithful. Mother Angelica singlehandedly took on these liberal clerics, who even threatened excommunication, but through her faith in God and her steadfast belief that God commanded her to establish this network, triumphantly prevailed over her enemies!

You’ll just never believe the chances, inspirations, sufferings Mother had to endure through 25 years to bring the network where it is today, as well as the millions of dollars that came by God’s providence and inspiration - to establish this Catholic Network miracle! Surely, God wanted to make things right in America by bringing the Church back to Catholic Orthodoxy, and He used this little nun to do a job that brilliant millionare businessmen couldn’t even fathom gettng off the ground!

My daughters gave me the book as a Christmas present. I cried when I read about Mother’s childhood and the love she had for her own mother. She’s truly a saint. I love her. Everyone should read this book.

Yes, she really is a latter day saint!

I had no idea she had visions either! And what suffering!

Absolutely incredible! Only God could have brought her through such horrific sufferings!

It’s amazing, truly amazing!
 
it’s an amazing story…from fishing lures to peanuts to books to worldwide media…
 
It is a great book! I met Raymond Arroyo at the EWTN celebration in Denver. He truly seems to be a nice man and gives a lively and entertaining synopsis of the book. If you have a chance to see him speak, do it!

My Daughter gave me the book for Christmas,too! I loved it and think it is such an inspiration. Raymond did a fantastic job in telling Mother Angelica’s story. I just love :love: Mother Angelica, and I agree that she truly is a Saint. There’s no one else like her!
 
I absolutely loved the book. Truth is stranger than fiction.

For some reason I wasn’t expecting such good writing from Raymond. He’s terrific. I’m going to buy his next book–whatever ever it may be.

What did you think of all the behind-the-scenes Church politics with the Bishop’s own network?

I bought it for myself when no one got it for me for Christmas. It indeed was a fantastic story. And a much-needed witness for complete reliance on divine providence, instead of trying to do every detail ourselves.

One of my favorite quotes. “This ‘budget’ you speak of. How much do you think I should have budgeted for this last year?” “1 million dollars.” “Well, God gave me 4 million. If I had followed you ‘budget’ I would have been out of 3 million dollars.”

I’m about 1/3 way through. My favorite thing so far was “Let the Lord pick up your scraps.” (For those of you who haven’t read it, it would be worth the money for just that one story alone.)

Mother Angelica is partly responsible for my being in RCIA. I was surfing the tv one day and ran across a nun with an eye patch. I said, is this a joke or something? Needless to say, I HAD to watch and was hooked! EWTN became my favorite network. There’s more to it than that of course, but now I’m in RCIA and will be confirmed Holy Saturday.
 
It made it to my list of ‘black hole books’
It took nearly two days to read it, and for some reason I could not let go until it was finished.

Virtually every responsibility I had was temporarily ignored for reading the book through.

I enjoyed the book but I thought Raymond should have handled the situation with Bishop Foley differently.
 
🙂 Hi to all who posted about the Mother Angelica book, I have promised myself to read this book since I heard of it`s relase but so far have not gotten around to it. After reading these posts I will make sure I read that book.
 
I’m 2/3 into the book and definitely a book you can’t put down! Raymond A. does a fantastic job as the author and speaks in plain language. I was totally flabbergasted at the way Cardinal Mahony of Calif. treated her. She is a living saint and we can learn from her and her constant trust in God.

Read the book and buy an extra to leave at a hair salon, dentist office, or church, etc. with a note, “free, read, pass it on”.

A movie SHOULD definitely be made of her life!

I’m reading it now and I agree w/ you that a movie should be made of her life…
 
I read it over Christmas, and was very pleased.
Raymond Arroyo is a very talented, eloquent, polished and charming gentlemen. He was in theater and Washington news before EWTN.
I hope he writes more - but to hear him speak lately, getting his home in order is very important right now.
He lost his New Orleans home in Katrina, and I think is living at the guest house at EWTN.
Pray for him, Mother A, and all of EWTN. They have done so much for the traditional orthodox church in the US.

I’m so sick of liberal clergy I could just scream! Half of them are “pro-gay”, pro-abortion and pay lip service to Rome. I also wish our bishops would stop avoiding salvation. Cardinal Mahony should be excommunicated with all the stuff he’s gotten away with. That letter he wrote disregarding the real presence was distgusting!! Our bishops do stuff like this and feel no shame?! Those bastards. I hope God the Father gives them a kick in the rear! I think our nation is going to get even more chastisements worse than Katrina. Warning to liberal Catholics, IF YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT MOTHER CHURCH TEACHES, THAN GET THE HELL OUT!
 
I agree, this is a wonderful book. I got to see Raymond
in December at a local Catholic bookstore. I found him to
be a very friendly and sincere person, my husband and I were
impressed with him. I had gotten the book when it first came out
and I also couldn’t put it down, I highly recommend this book. 👍
 
Just purchases the book in Audio CD… read by Arroyo.

I got it on CD too and it was so great. he is such a great reader and his Mother Angelican and PJP II were GREAT! I loved the other voices too. he should read books on tape professionally. he’d be so good at it 🙂 and he tells a very colorful story.
