I recently became an Associate Member of the Confraternity of the Holy Guardian Angels (I made my Consecration on Feb 3).

One thing I am attempting to do towards my next goal of becoming an Active Member (in 3 or 4 years) is to increase my prayer life (which had been dreadful until recently). I have a couple decent prayer books (my main one is the Handbook of Prayers), but am looking for one of Novenas and or Devotions. So far, the one that is most promising is:

Treasury of Novenas by Lawrence G. Lovasik

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

One that I have taken to often and for long periods of time is
“Prayers and Heavenly Promises” by Joan Carroll Cruz.

I have found that the most beneficial prayer is quiet time in front of the Blessed Sacrament or a quiet place at home. The goal is to just be silent of mind and body so that the Lord can penitrate our soul. I’m not that good at it but I do appreciate the idea that God wants me to just be quiet for awhile so he can talk.

God Bless and don’t get to raped up in flying from one devotion to the next just spend time with the Lord.

One excellent thing to build into your prayer life is praise as prayer.

Spontaneous, unscripted praise - it can be very powerful.

While “Treasury of Novenas” looks to be a good one, also try Fr. Lasance’s Missal (pre-Vatican II but other than the Mass - everything in English). I have one that was my mother’s from before I was born - but only recently began to look at it. Marvelous - from the standpoint of short dissertations of advice - and litanies, prayers, etc. Drawback is it’s very fine print.

CatholicCompany.com seems to advertise alot of novena/prayer books. But here’s a suggestion. If you have any small photo albums, plastic booklet sized, that have top-slot openings, (they are often sent by charitable organizations at Christmas for a donation?), you can use those to insert your favorite novena / prayer cards / even scapulars. A wonderfully handy tool to keep in bedside drawer for the hospitalized patient, BTW.
Just a thought.

I decided to go down to the parish’s gift shop this morning to see what they had. The only Novena book they had was the one I was looking at, so I bought it.
