I can’t answer all of your question, but I’ll try with the rest. The canon of the bible, which books would be kept, etc., was set in the second or third century. It remained that way until the time of Martin Luther, who removed seven books of the Old Testament. He also wanted to take out some of the New Testament as well, but was talked out of it by friends.
I’ve heard some protestant claim that the Catholic church added those seven books at the time of the reformation. But you can’t add what’s already there.
