I am looking for a book or couple of books on the history/development of Catholic Social Thought/Doctrine.

The ones I have seem to only concentrate of recent documents from Rerum Novarum (1891) and newer. I am looking for something that follows the development from the beginning to the present day.

My first thought would be to go with what you’ve found (though of course it would help to know what specifics you’re referring to).

Terms like “Catholic Social Thought/Doctrine” invariably, imho and limited experience, refer to Leo the Great and 1891 as a kind of origin/genesis. So, I would expect any serious and credible such work to also include references to Tradition prior to 1891.

The fact is that almost all sources on CST will use 1891 as their reference point. So I wouldn’t dismiss what you’ve already found, unless you have some other valid reason.

What books have you found? Do you need other resources?

There are two.

The first is just pure documents:
The other is
I think me reason is twofold. First, I love history and like to see how things progress. The other is from my job background as a developer. Many times I have to research root causes of problems/processes. In the case of Catholic Social Thought, I would like to find the root of the development process.

Those are outstanding. They are the first two I would have recommended. Thanks.
