I’ve been listening to several lectures by Steve Wood and Michael Barber dealing with Biblical prophecy. Not counting myself among those who have investigated prophecy much at all, I’m really interested in becoming more familiar with the various prophetic books, prophecies, and prophets of Scripture - but, of course, I don’t want to spend all my time digging into things like dispensationalism, which isn’t to say I want to ignore it either. But books by Tim LaHaye really aren’t on the top of my list right now.

If there’s anybody here who might recommend so good books and/or websites dealing with Biblical prophecy, especially ones dealing with prophecy as interpreted by the Church, then I’d appreciate it.

The Apoclaypse of St. John, The Catholic Apologetics Study Bible, Volume II, Queenship Publishing, 2007, Robert A. Sungenis, Ph.D.

Robert follows a strict amillenial view as taught by Augustine and the Church.

Can you explain that? Israel is mentioned many times.

If you mean ‘no modern state of Israel foretold in prophecy as a sign of the start of the Millenium’, specifically, you are right, Robert does not take that specific view, and nor has the Church, nor Augustine. This would be a post-Millenial view. The key component to the amillenial view is the we are in the Millenium right now. This is it folks, don’t waste time waiting for things to happen and don’t presume they already have. We are living it. We are in the main plot of the Apocalypse as I am speaking. The Apocalypse is about the Church, not some mystical future occurence (though it makes for exciting movies and books perhaps), nor some past event from which we can draw lessons. It is the A Guidebook for living and surviving as a Chrisitan today. It puts into direct perspective what to be aware of today, not what mysterious events to look for in the future (though it contains some of that, too), not to look back on and learn from (though, again it does contain some of that, also). It is 100% relevant now and has been relevant throughout the age of the Church, and is not waiting for some future time to become really relevant. The future events will happen very quickly and will conclude the Church age. 99% of the Apocalypse is occuring right now [the Church age].

I am not saying that it may not be possible to speculate about prophecies concerning Israel, but not at the expense of the Church’s amillenial eschatology of the Apocalypse.

Let’s not turn the Apocalypse into a Da Vinci Code or an Aesop’s Fable. It is an Every Man’s Survival Manual for Today.
