Books on the lives of Saints

This would be for me (an adult, not my kids) so that I could use it as a reference. I’ve done some basic searches on amazon and aquinasandmore.com but it is hard to tell. One book by the name of Butler looked good, however it was written in the 1700s. The description said that more recent saints were added. I’d like the most contemporary version as possible.

Any suggestions?

Hi Julie I always recommend my favorite… “The Story of a Soul” … the autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux (The Little Flower). It is a wonderful view, into the life of the Doctor of the Little Way! The way St. Therese writes, the reader almost feels as though part of the Martin Family. God bless you.

That book is definitely on my “to read list”. However, I am really looking for a reference book on the lives of many saints. Sort of an encyclopedia.

There is a book called “Dictionary of Saints” I can find out the author for you. It is very comprehensive in the listing of saints. Some have one or two lines, while others have one or two pages, depending on how much is actually known about the saint. It is an easy to read book, although the print tends to be a little small for older eyes that sometimes need assistance. I recommend it heartily!
