As a polytheist I find the book highly offensive. More so than Catholic Teachings.

HA ha…thats funny. And whys that?
I’d rather someone say I am being tricked by super intelligent demons whom I have a vulnerability to (Catholicism), then be told I am so stupid and spiritually unevolved God has to show himself to be as a million Gods for me to figure him out.

While we are on this subject a God that appears as millions of different beings strikes me a lot as being like a teenager that is Catholic one minute, then Hindu, then Atheist, then Buddhist, then ect. ect.

The Urantia book is classic new age junk. There is a website that helps spread the propaganda of this book at (ubfellowship.org/web_intro1.htm)II) would not recommend anyone accessing this site unless they are well versed in defending their faith. I list this as a reference only. The site says “The Urantia Book contains a synthesis of the concepts and ideas of more than 2,000 individuals who have contributed to the fields of science, philosophy, religion, history, sociology and theology during the last 2,000 years. Compiled by an editorial staff of superhuman beings, the text provides a startling perspective of human origins, history and destiny, constituting a major revelation to humanity.”

The trick in most new age books is to take exisitng truth and package it to sell old disproven ideas, mythologies, etc. As you read it one will find many familiar facts and ideas, however, these are used to support a broader false picture. Their website they list an outline to the basic theology of the book. Here is an excerpt from a section on Jesus. It is inherantly anti Catholic and anti-Christian. It is rather long. Notice how certain statements seem almost reasonable and others are clearly junk. This is the familiar pattern of lies hiding within the facts that so much of new age writing.

The citation from their website read"

"* C. The Plan of Salvation
  1. Jesus’ death on the cross was not to atone for any sin of Adam or for man’s supposed racial guilt. Jesus is a savior but not a ransomer or a redeemer. [See "Meaning of the Death on the Cross, (2016:7)[188:4], [See also “Lessons from the Cross” (2017:2)[188:5] a. Evil, sin, and judgment are stern and sober realities in the universe; nevertheless, the Universal Father is not a spirit despot who requires blood sacrifice or atonement for sins. (2017 section 5)[188:5]
“The cross forever shows that the attitude of Jesus toward sinners was neither condemnation nor condonation, but rather eternal and loving salvation.” (2018:2)[188:5.2]

b. By allowing misguided mortals to put him to death, Jesus made the cross an eternal symbol of the triumph of love over hate and the victory of truth over evil. "The teachings of Jesus constituted the first Urantian religion which so fully embraced a harmonious co-ordination of knowledge, wisdom, faith, truth, and love as completely and simultaneously to provide temporal tranquillity, intellectual certainty, moral enlightenment, philosophic stability, ethical sensitivity, God-consciousness, and the positive assurance of personal survival. The faith of Jesus pointed the way to finality of human salvation, to the ultimate of mortal universe attainment, since it provided for:

Salvation from material fetters in the personal realization of sonship with God, who is spirit.

Salvation from intellectual bondage: man shall know the truth, and the truth shall set him free.

Salvation from spiritual blindness, the human realization of the fraternity of mortal beings and the morontian awareness of the brotherhood of all universe creatures; the service-discovery of spiritual reality and the ministry-revelation of the goodness of spirit values.

Salvation from incompleteness of self through the attainment of the spirit levels of the universe and through the eventual realization of the harmony of Havona and the perfection of Paradise.

Salvation from self, deliverance from the limitations of self-consciousness through the attainment of the cosmic levels of the Supreme mind and by co-ordination with the attainments of all other self-conscious beings.

Salvation from time, the achievement of an eternal life of unending progression in God-recognition and God-service.

Salvation from the finite, the perfected oneness with Deity in and through the Supreme by which the creature attempts the transcendental discovery of the Ultimate on the postfinaliter levels of the absonite."

Some of these are paraphrases of bible verse like the truth shall set you free and others are classic new-age, some border on Gnosticism, i.e. secret knowledge for the elite that leads to a higher spiritual enlightnement, secret names of places that don’t exist, statements about transcendental discovery etc.

The Book is clearly non-Catholic and is a danger to anyone who does not recognize what it is.

this is my first visit here. a friend of mine is really into reading the Urantia book, calling it the latest chapter in the book about God. Being raised Catholic and not being a bible reader, I have a hard time discussing my Catholic beliefs and even harder time understanding what is so compeling about the Urantian beliefs. Any opinions or help?
Stay away from this book. It is a big, thick book of falsehoods. The compelling part for many is pure curiosity. I mean, when I saw it in a bookstore, my first thought was “Who put in the and effort to write such a large book?”

sample:
The human Jesus saw God as being holy, just, and great, as well as being true, beautiful, and good. All these attributes of divinity he focused in his mind as the “will of the Father in heaven.” Jesus’ God was at one and the same time “The Holy One of Israel” and “The living and loving Father in heaven.” The concept of God as a Father was not original with Jesus, but he exalted and elevated the idea into a sublime experience by achieving a new revelation of God and by proclaiming that every mortal creature is a child of this Father of love, a son of God.
Code:
Jesus did not cling to faith in God as would a struggling soul at war with the universe and at death grips with a hostile and sinful world; he did not resort to faith merely as a consolation in the midst of difficulties or as a comfort in threatened despair; faith was not just an illusory compensation for the unpleasant realities and the sorrows of living. In the very face of all the natural difficulties and the temporal contradictions of mortal existence, he experienced the tranquillity of supreme and unquestioned trust in God and felt the tremendous thrill of living, by faith, in the very presence of the heavenly Father. And this triumphant faith was a living experience of actual spirit attainment. Jesus' great contribution to the values of human experience was not that he revealed so many new ideas about the Father in heaven, but rather that he so magnificently and humanly demonstrated a new and higher type of living faith in God. Never on all the worlds of this universe, in the life of any one mortal, did God ever become such a living reality as in the human experience of Jesus of Nazareth.
Nothing of value here. Just deception. The real Jesus is written about in the Holy Bible. This book tries to create a “new” jesus.
