I went to Borders today. The kids’ section had many very nice Xmas books of all kinds - many versions of the classic A Christmas Carol, Santa Claus and snowmen stories, animal stories, there was a very nice one about welcoming strangers at church even. But where was the real Christmas story? On the floor near a support beam, away from the Christmas display and blocked from view by other books.

I rearranged their display. 😉

Does your church do something special with the kids at Christmastime?

My church (Catholic) has a Jesse tree and the kids, after taking a tag and getting a gift for someone in need, make Jesse ornaments to hang in the tag’s place. At the family Mass, the kids are called up to hang the ornaments they made.

It’s good to teach the children to think of those less fortunate and perform active works of charity for them, but hanging the Jesse Tree ornaments should be done before or after Mass, not at it.

Yeah, Merry Christmas to you too, Jack. 😉

Yes, our parish does something very similar at the Family Mass. It is SUCH a blessing for my children… the Priests really try to bring everything down to their level. They do an especially beautiful Christmas Eve Family Mass. Additionally, the children’s choir performs at a special advent service … and our K of C does a big breakfast in the community room where Santa stops for a visit. It’s so nice!!

I have to say… as a former Protestant - NOBODY does Christmas like Catholics. 👍

My Parish does a Children’s Christmas Mass on Christmas eve. For my part Santa has been “eliminated” from Christmas. He now comes on December 6th like he’s suppossed to.

I like this idea. My kids are too old to make the switch now … and I didn’t know of St. Nicholas Day prior to becoming Catholic.
