I am waiting for my laundry to dry so I can go do groceries and I am bored out of my mind. How do others cope? Being 46 and single with no kids allows for way too much time for myself. Work is going good but honestly, now that I know what I am doing although I am on the payroll full time, I honestly only have 75% work. The other 25% of the time I sit quietly at my desk so as to not disturb people and do the same things over again. Just way too much time on my hands lately

Hobbies. Many of them. Ones you can do at home and ones you can do with a group.

Baking, playing a musical instrument, knitting, crafts, learning a programming language, learning a natural language, going to the gym, dance classes, martial arts classes, joining a choir, joining a drama club, volunteering for charities. Millions of possibilities! 🙂

I agree with the above poster. I am also single with no kids and barely have time to do everything I want. Between learning a language, working out, cooking everything from scratch, volunteering at church and my kdrama/kpop addiction I’m busy 24/7

I suggest some online religious forums that might enrich you. As with the content here, you can learn a lot and also communicate with people. (Thought, of course, have hobbies that aren’t online!)

If you don’t mind my asking, what language are you learning? For grammar, I suggest using Duolingo, which is 100% free and has 23 languages for English speakers (I’ve been learning, of all things, Hungarian!)

Portable hobbies. Knitting, embroidery, reading, Pinterest. Letter writing. List making.

There are easily a thousand really good books you could read.

Hobbies and books. If you get bored and/or tired easily, I’d suggest choosing a hobby that doesn’t take a lot of concentration, something you can do while you listen to music or a book on tape or watch TV.

If you’re 46, your parents (if alive) are seniors. Do you live close enough to help them with housework, etc?

I stay on CA. I look up things as a new Catholic. The one thing that I’ve learned since I became Catholic is there is plenty to get into being a Catholic. I love it.

I used to get bored during the holidays, every holiday and even weekends. Now, holidays and weekends fly by. I pray in my spare time, read the Bible. I read the Bible from cover to cover in Spanish and next want to read it in English. If I had more time, I would read my other books, “Catholicism for Dummies” and learn to evangelize.

The Bible says to pray without ceasing. So, if you pray one rosary, if you have time, pray several or some Chaplets of Divine Mercy.

I have a friend of mine who knows more about events in the world and on the faith. We chat on FaceBook, and he sends me videos to watch.

When I have extra time, on occasion, I also make cord rosaries.

Visit with family or friends over Skype or just visit them outright, spend time with the Blessed Sacrament.

Perform a work of mercy, visiting the sick (even by phone), etc.

Take a class. Learn something you don’t know.

The suggestions mentioned are good. 🙂

You might want to try watercoloring, if you haven’t. It’s pretty popular these days. I’ve attended a few workshops. There are also free video tutorials on Youtube. Paid online classes are available, which you can view anytime.

So yeah, there’s art, sports, learning a musical instrument, cooking or baking, learning another language.

You mentioned sitting at your desk with nothing to do. I suggest praying the Rosary, or Divine Mercy chaplet for the souls in purgatory, or perhaps offer up some intercessory prayers, like for the prayer intentions posted here on CAF, or pray a novena for yourself or someone?

This is something that I do at work, when the Internet is down. I need to use the Net for my work, and when it’s down, in order to make the most of my time, I pray.

Outside of work time, I also recommend Eucharistic Adoration as often as you can, if possible.

Well – very simply, you could head on over to the “Prayers” forum on this Catholic board (or another one). Write some encouraging notes to the individuals posting messages. And spend some time praying for those in need too…

Maybe the Lord will bless you and you’ll become less bored as you invest your time in looking after the needs of others. What do you think?

LOL! Some of us or even many of us, would love to have the luxury-or time- to get bored! :pPeace.

You could learn to make rosaries for the missions; they never have enough, and they are easy to make.

Maybe you need another job or even a career change. It sounds like you are up for a challenge.

So many great suggestions here for you! I might also recommend praying in your head at those various times of the day when you’re bored waiting for laundry, more work to come in, etc… Always wonderful to offer up a prayer for the suffering souls in purgatory as well as any loved ones who are in need - not to mention for an excellent result in the presidential election coming up if you live in the U.S.! In that regard, all of the innocent unborn babies could use all the prayers they can get to help try to turn things around in the U.S…

Our Lord’s peace to you always!

I’m going to offer something a bit different from what you’ve been offered so far-unless I missed something. This is from a book by deceased catholic priest Joseph M. Champlin titled “Take five”.
Code:
"In our society and culture, just being, just sitting and absorbing the beauty of life and relationships isn't easy. There is the strong compulsion that we all seem to possess for pure action, to be doing something. But the Bible says" 'Be still and know that I am God.'...

"There are times when it is profitable just to *be* for a few moments and resist the need to *do**something that is outwardly productive."
Be still...smell the roses...enjoy the view. Breathe and listen.*
