A priest that I studied with indicated that Protestant fundamentalism is based on the sole authority of the Bible and fundamentalism in the Catholic context is Catholics who hang onto every word of the pope even when he is not speaking ex-cathedra.

I am not really interested in Traditional Catholicism but I don’t see Traditional Catholics as hanging on to every word the pope says. I find the focus of the TC is to concentrate on the greatness of God as opposed to the more communal interpretations in the mass that I prefer which is the new mass since Vatican II.

I think that God doesn’t care what mass we choose, he only cares that we are authentic in our love…your thoughts…I have no point to make in this thread, just me going on a brain journey somewhere, not sure where 🙂

Trickster - Your OP comes across as confused and contradictory. How can ‘Trad. Catholics’ be only focusing on the greatness/nature of God, without due reference and thought and involvement with their ‘neighbour’?

Matthew 22:36-40

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’** 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”**

Why do you equate the priest’s reference to “fundamentalism in the Catholic context” with "Traditional Catholicism?

That said, I agree that God is not concerned with whether we prefer the EF or the OF of the mass.

It is always unfair to label people as " this " or " that. " To do so indicates an attitude of prejudice in the one doing the labeling. There is no Rite in the Catholic Church called " Traditional Catholic. " As long as one is attending Mass in a Rite approved by the Church, one is practicing Catholic traditions in worship and Liturgy. Only God can judge the genuiness of each individual Catholic. I think you priestly friend is just letting off a little steam against closed minded individuals. And you can meet such Catholics in every Rite, not just in that Rite which prefers the traditional Latin Mass. So I would just consider the source of such comments and let it pass.
