BOSTON (AP) – A priest accused of sexual abuse can return to public ministry after the Boston Archdiocese finds that the allegation could not be substantiated.
The Reverend Monsignor Robert Fichtner was put on administrative leave in 2003 after the archdiocese received a complaint claiming Fichtner sexually abused a child more than 20 years earlier.
But in a statement released today, the Boston Archdiocese says a review board could not verify the allegation.
Archbishop Sean O’Malley has lifted all restrictions on Fichtner.
It was unclear if Fichtner would return to public ministry.
Published reports indicate he retired in 2002 from service at a church in Watertown.
