The Boston Globe predictably editorialized on Wednesday against Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin for “targeting” Rep. Patrick Kennedy. They predictably cavil that bishops don’t punish politicians who support the death penalty and wars.

Those facing the death penalty have been tried, been given lawyers, and have had years of appeals. Those in war are given guns to defend themselves and trained. Wars are awful but when a country or a people are attacked, they have the right to defend themselves.

A child in the womb has no rights: no lawyer, no trial, no chance to produce an argument of why he should live, can’t even involve his own father in his defense for life. It is all in the hands of one person…she who created him. (And please, let’s not go down the road of rape and incest. The majority of 40 million aborted was done for convenience). And it is the Mother who seeks out the abortionist.

Slaves had no rights neither did Jews and the others exterminated during WWII. All were used and/or killed for the convenience of others. Wrong then, wrong now.

That’s the typical guilty, childlike response of the Boston Globe. Boils down to this: “How come you’re condemning my actions? Can’t you see there are others out there doing things just as bad?” It can’t be sin because everyone’s doing it, or doing something like it.

It’s the Globe, what else would an editor write?

As the rag nears bankruptcy, it still hasn’t figured out there’s hunger for real journalism, not the partisan bile it so prolifically produces.

The BG is wrong on all counts as usual!

**First, Bishop Tobin did not target Kennedy, it was Kennedy who brought this private request from Bishop Tobin nearly 3 years ago, into the spotlight.
**
Secondly, public figures who vote & speak directly in opposition to Church teaching, especially primal issues like abortion, should be given a private counseling by their pastor & then Bishop to allow them to “repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mk 1:15). If they continue to speak publicly in opposition to the Truth, then they must be called out in public (ie. Pelosi, Biden…).

The article goes on to say of the BG, " They predictably cavil that bishops don’t punish politicians who support the death penalty and wars."

The Church provides a" just war" caveat & the death penalty can be allowed in extreme circumstances, but abortion is always a grave evil! “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:” (CCC 2271)

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Those who do not accept that abortion is a moral issue will of course see it only as a political issue. It’s like wearing spectacles that filter out all but one wavelength of light.

I think the Bishop has shown above and beyond care and concern in this matter. We should be glad that some of our Bishops care enough to make stands such as this! 🙂

Let’s be frank about it. The Kennedy politicians are Liberal humanists who happen to be cradle catholics. Whenever the teachings of the Church come into conflict with the moeurs and ways of liberal humanism then they put their liberal humanist viewpoint first and ignore the Church.

Of course the Globe is going to decry the viewpoint of the Church. It is a liberal humanist paper appealing to a liberal humanist readership.

Maggie - Above, you’ve both hit the nail or is that the Globe on the head.

Do we really expect a co-traveler to denounce his Pal? The Globe has been
kissing the Kennedy Klan and other Pro-Death supporters for decades &
looking the other way whenever one of those “friends” stumbles, falls or sins.

Soon the Globe will be dead followed soon after by the NY Times. Pinchy, just
doesn’t have the $$ or support anymore to prop up these liberal rags.
Personally I look forward to their demise but I will feel badly for those left out
in the cold and unemployed.
