Is it morally right to get botox to look younger? I believe this leans towards the deadly sins of envy and pride. However I would like a different perspective. Hypothetical what if: what if you received humiliation for your skin sagging at an early age and you felt ashamed to show your face? These are both seperate questions so seperate answers are appreciated.

Thank you for such a quick response Brittany. 😃 Your contribution on this site l appreciate a lot. Good luck in college and following your faith.

I know the sin of pride is correlated with botox injections in many. I am just concerned and looking for an answer to those looking to transcend age. For if you spend your whole life focused about how your body looks I think pride has taken hold of you. It’s a hard topic to bring up to woman who are aging and fighting against it.

Blessings,
I’m 70 yo. I have not had plastic surgery done, yet?? May never. This is my year for the sin of VANITY. I don’t look 70. Thank You Jesus. I had been complaining while looking in the mirror for each extra wrinkle popping up this year. Then, I realized I should be grateful. So, I look in mirror and say Thank you. Now, depending how ugly one gets in old age, I don’t consider one surgery timed at a goid point in age to be sinful. All old ppl aren’t ugly. (The beauty of an aged face…-poem) My forehead has dropped. My eyes look droopy. It can affect vision, depending. My teeth point inwards. If I had money, I’d fine tune something. It is a kind service for all humanity, NOT TO LOOK AT MY UGLIES. CHUCKLE!
There are ppl starving in the world.
Is getting my hair colored and cut, Vanity??
Us wearing jewelry, Vanity? Buy cheap cosmetic jewelry. HMMM. Matters of the soul are more important.
WE SHOUD DRESS MODESTLY! If we died wearing a string bikini and stood before Jesus, what would he think.
If I had plastic surgery once to put my face where it was, is that a sin…
I use to pray for the stigmata when I was young. Even as a teen, said, “If my face leads another to sin, make me ugly.” I have a book on the Stigmatics. The blood is everywhere. One was crying tears of blood. The hands and feet were wrapped in bandages. Blood kept sleeping through. I was s nurse. Blood doesn’t frighten or gross me out x for years of blood and wounds that won’t stay neat in a dsg.HMMM
So much for Sainthood!
I never thought I’d feel that way.
I do have constant pain. I offer it up for my family and souls in Purgatory.

You may laugh w me. Getting old is not for faint hearted.
Lord, we humble ourselves, before your throne, in new bodies when dead. I’m looking forward to the change. In Jesus name. Amen

Very well said. Your words are inspiration in themselves. Thank you so much for your perspective. As a young lad I don’t understand what it’s like to go through those situations without people like you. Peace be with you sister, you’re in my prayers.

Well, Alexander,
YOU ARE YOUNG! You’ll understand oneday.
HER HEE. The first grey hair… It starts out funny.

I hope I can accept it with humility when it comes. 🙂 I also pray I can talk to others to accept it as well; like my mother who is the sole creation of this post.

I agree in prayer for you to have courage. Start brainwashing yourself. My Aunt said, She loved grey hair. I was looking forward for it. It came. I saw. I conquered. CHUCKLE

Does anyone really need to inject themselves with botulism toxin, a deadly poison?

Is it morally right to get botox to look younger?
It depends. It might be vanity or it might just be the smart thing to do.
I believe this leans towards the deadly sins of envy and pride.
How?
Hypothetical what if: what if you received humiliation for your skin sagging at an early age and you felt ashamed to show your face?
A couple of things: Botox won’t fix sagging, rather it treats wrinkles by paralyzing the muscle(s) underneath the skin. There are other, non-invasive treatments for “sagging”.

Anyway, I’ve used a botox-like product to rid myself of a groove between my eyes. It took me a long time to figure out what was “wrong.” Two things: 1) I felt like my face was out of sync with who I was; no matter how happy I was, I didn’t look like I felt. People, including a “friend,” reacted strangely to me, sort of defensive even if I was agreeing with them or just neutral, while listening. The groove made me look mildly angry or judge-y (not old). Like I said, it took me a long time to zero in on what other people were seeing and that how that one little thing was perceived. So I looked into it, got the injections and the difference was notable. One of the nurses where I go told me it’s a very common procedure for teachers (I"m not a teacher but I deal with children within the context of my job so I don’t want to look angry. If we need to be approachable in our work, it’s beneficial and not vanity.

FWIW I don’t really maintain like I should and even if I did it wouldn’t be sinful. I get a shadow now, not a groove, and when the shadow is too prominent I’ll probably go back for more injections. I sort of dig the little squeak the syringe makes.

You are asking about Botox but what about people who cover their gray? Is that wrong? Unfortunately, looking older can be a disadvantage in the workplace or when trying to get a job; getting rid of the gray, getting rid of wrinkles, wearing makeup, each do something so others perceive as younger, capable, professional, etc.

Botox doesn’t just treat wrinkles it helps some people with migraines and a friend is looking into it for excessive sweating.

My pal at work…well his wife…Vietnam couple…she has a bad eye twitch…
they’ve gone to doctors…but nothing…I gave them Holy water…but they haven’t use it.

The only thing that helps is the Botox shot - expensive too -
the twitch goes away for two months…before it goes back to twitching again.
I suppose it’s like dying your hair…so no grey shows…till a month or two later !

I’ve looked into excessive sweating and botox injections before, for therapeutic purposes I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with it. However I believe when injecting it into your face it is a slippery slope. As you need self control or else you’ll progress it further; such as face sanding, lifts, plastic surgery etc… That’s when I see it as defacing your body. There’s a happy medium between anything, however playing with something of sinful nature is always dangerous without strong self control.

I’m not sure if this is correct, but I once heard a priest on EWTN answer a question about plastic surgery. The girl was asking about getting her nose done. The priest said that it was fine to get plastic surgery if it was necessary. If it was a deformity that greatly affected the person’s life in any way it would be perfectly fine. if it’s a matter of vanity, then I think it may be a venial sin depending on how much you get and how much it cost you? Like, when a person gets excessive amounts, puts his or her life in danger for it, Or spends money that their children need or things like that would change the gravity of it from venial to mortal. The Botox itself is not a sin, it’s the vanity and irresponsibility that may come with it for some people ( not all people!) that can make getting it sinful. I feel like I ran myself around a circle there 😅 anyway! I hope it helps!

We had another thread on the same subject just a week or two ago, on the Casual forum. The title was:

What to do if the girl uses botox and hyaluronic acid to be more beautiful?

People will always find reasons to hurt or judge others whether out of jealousy, arrogance or bad manners. It’s hard when it hurts us and we may get tempted to change ourselves to suit what others may think of us. It’s very important to be happy with who we are first. Do what makes you happy and what you feel is right for you. Don’t let what others think influence you to do something as drastic as surgical procedure, even if it is as simple as a Botox shot. I truly believe that God loves you for who you are and he won’t stop loving you just because you decide to get or not to get a Botox shot. Do your research and decide what is right for you.
I think people get so obsessed with fear of sin they forget God’s immense love for people.

There is a safer alternative to botox as a remedy for wrinkles afaik. Still do your research. I like reading up on beauty products. Look up matrixyl peptides. Argireline acts similarly to botox in freezing up the muscles.

Sinful? I don’t think so, but the very idea of injecting a toxin that paralyzes muscles into my face gives me the creeps. It doesn’t last very long and you have to keep doing it over and over and over. No thanks.

I missed that thread. Hyaluronic acid is really no big deal. It’s in a lot of otc moisturizers and serums. I wonder if some people hear “acid” and think acid peels and other treatments that should be performed by a professional rather than products with AHAs or BHAs that have been available otc for decades.

At 41 let’s just say I’ve been tempted. 😂
But I think there’s other treatments and alternatives that aren’t as extreme as botox.
Sooner or later I’ll just have to accept growing old gracefully.
