Bow the head during consecration?

I recently saw a priest lead the people in doing this once. He sang the entire chorus of “O Come All Ye Faithful” while elevating the Host and turning from left to right like an oscillating fan. I thought it was pretty weird.
Yikes. Not nearly as bad as that, but I was at a Mass once where a middle-aged married couple in the pews (visiting the church, I presume) felt it necessary to shout “My Lord and my God!” both at the elevation of the Host and the chalice. I jumped both times.

Anyway, I say (silently) “My Lord and my God” when the Host is raised, and when the chalice is raised I say (again, silently) “Remember, O Lord, thy creature, whom Thou hast redeemed by Thy most Precious Blood.” The latter prayer is from the missals at my local EF and I think it’s beautiful. Oh, and I look at Jesus.

The thing that people do. :rotfl:
I have not come across that extreme though.🙂

beckycmarie - That’s what I say overdoing it. They feel it necessary to verbalize it. That comes from the Charismatic background and yes I saw it done many times and I thought it was a natural thing to do. But not in the context of the mass. We were chastized one time for encouraging it by a very knowledgeable Bishop , and of course he was spot on about it. GIRM now however put everything in place and perhaps rightly so.

What is the proper posture during mass when the bread and wine are consecrated? I am not asking about kneeling. I know that we are kneeling, but when the host and chalice are each raised at the words of consecration, should one’s head be bowed or should we be looking at the Body and Blood of Christ in adoration as the priest raises them up?
We bow our heads for blessings.

At the moment of Elevation, all eyes should be on the consecrated host and chalice. This is our acknowledgment of the true and real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

This and when the priest does a second elevation before the “Domine non sum dignus…”
