Twice this week at the end of Mass our priest had us bow our heads for God’s blessing and had a special blessing at the end of Mass. Now I’ve seen this done on special holy days but not normally like this twice in one week. He did it today at the early Mass but didn’t do it last night. What determines this? Just wondering. I can use all the extra blessing I can get but was sort of wondering…🤷

During lent, there’s a prayer over the people for every day that the priest can use.

Btw, the new translation’s text is actually “Bow for the blessing.”

The final blessing can be one of the Celebrant’s choosing. He doesn’t need to use the simple form, i.e. May almighty God bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

This prayer over the people is optional so some priests may decide to use it and some may not.
